About Me

CURRENT MISSION

First Person to travel Latin America walking only on their lips... that's not a metaphor... envisage a slug or snail like motion with an inverted human attached to its back.

ABOUT ME

I'm a former aspiring historian, a current disability support worker, and I dabble in social activism.

"Dave is like what would happen if a British historian and an Australian surfer-dude had to common-law raise Johnny Rotten's child" - C.S. reference from an old host and friend.

Subcultural labels are pretty restrictive... is Anarcho-nerd a thing?

Here's a list; makes things easier.

- I love people. Sometimes I find them really easy, sometimes I start off a bit anxious and awkward.
- I love reading
- I can party
- If you don't love dogs, you're an arsehole :)
- I have come begrudgingly accept that cats are awesome too.
- Wombats are my favourite non-domesticated animal
- Dolphins and sloths are a close equal second.
- If you stay with me during NRL season, you now follow the mighty St. George Illawarra Dragons.
- I have nothing against soft drugs or occasionally drinking in excess
- I work with people with disabilities (usually Autism)
- I love snorkelling and diving.
- I love Camping.
- I love big cities and quaint towns.
- I enjoy cooking
and will make you something
- I would love to be a writer
- Rain on a tin roof :)
- Cheese is life
- I used to be able to dunk
- Going hiking is fun
- I can do dishes
- I HATE UMBRELLAS!
- Beer is a favorite past time
- Wine is a favorite past time
- Food is good
- T.V., Movies and games are good for wet weather
- My health kicks involve trying to eat spinach to feel better about myself during a hangover
- Sports are good (except for fucking Baseball)

Now bear with me while I go on a rant

The irony was never lost on my grandfather that he moved from South Wales to New South Wales. He was a coal miner and vocal unionist, and through politics met my grandmother in the 50's. Both were pretty well known communist party members and suffered the same McCarthyism bullshit as their comrades in the US and other parts of the west. They both have pretty significant ASIO and CIA files.

NOW, THIS MINDLESS RAMBLE IS COMING TO A POINT

On Dads side of the family, I can trace myself back to the first fleet (the first wave of convicts who moved to Australia in 1788). Since then the family has seen a number of armed outlaws or 'wild colonial boys' who rode around country New South Wales during the 1800's.

In short, I have the genetic make up of a criminal and a political dissident...so you should certainly invite me into your house

PHILOSOPHY

War for Peace is like fucking for virginity.

If life hands you lemons, clone those lemons to make GENETICALLY SUPERIOR SUPER LEMONS!

Socialist/humanist/anarcho-syndicalist - No borders, fuck religion, let's get together and reach for the stars.

I'm pretty much an athiest. Scratch that, I AM an Athiest. While I'm always down for a good heated discussion on theology, I still generally believe people have the right to choice of faith. I dont think anyone elses belief is worth any less than mine (unless you use religion as a dubious rationale for bigoted ideals)

Do good things

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and host!

I've created the odd event for hiking trips, road trips etc.

Interests

Jumping off things, Hiking, Playing pool/snooker, Rugby League, Soccer, Basketball, History, Philosophy, Music, Drinking, Politics...blah blah blah

Music, Movies, and Books

Books on history, politics, the world, anthropology, philosophy, etc.
Bryce Courtney, Margaret Atwood, Kate Quinn, Terry Pratchett, Jennifer Egan, Neil Gaiman, Leon Uris, etc etc etc ...

I was a punk rocker when I was a teenager so some of my favorite bands are and always will be dirty, almost talentless, 90's punkers.
I'm still mostly rock! Bit of metal, folk rock, classic rock.
Basically anything with a social point to make is great too, so lots of folk and reggae.
I listen to more or less anything these days (Jazz, Blues, Classical, Hip Hop, Indie)... just not death metal or intense gangster rap.
Surely all humans love some angsty shit when the mood calls for it... other people's music is the poet's lament for those of us without the time or skillz to make meaningful artistic contributions.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Lived in the Philippines for a couple of months. Made some great friends and moved out to Cavite province where I spent my days making food starting with a live chicken, a coconut tree and a bottle of soy sauce

Finca El Paraiso, Guatemala - Having the hot springs waterfall all to our selves all day

Driving to Uluru

Hitchhiking around the U.S.A

Peyto Lake, Canadian Rockies

Teach, Learn, Share

Depends what your interested in. Conversation alone, between people of different backgrounds and experience, is the best possible forum for learning

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook. I don't mind washing up n I'm always down for a good ole fashioned shit-shootin.
