About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Travel, work, photograph, learn, meet new friends
ABOUT ME
My wife Diana and I have lived in Rock Springs since 1992. We moved here when I got a job teaching mathematics at the college here in Rock Springs. In 2013 I retired from teaching, so it's exciting to be in the next phase of my life.
I have a small business, www.metzimage.com, working out of my home office, doing digital enhancements or digital restoration of photographs, and making archival-quality prints for my clients. I am also deep into my own artwork, which you can see at www.davidvonmetz.com
I'm an avid photographer and Photoshop user and I hope to travel, meet new friends and take photos wherever I go.
PHILOSOPHY
Improve oneself and improve life for others.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Diana and I signed up to Couchsurfing in August 2013, and since then we have stayed at a couple of places, and have hosted numerous couch surfers. All great experiences!

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: I gravitate to romantic comedies such as Holiday; also realistic semi-indies such as Perks of Being a Wallflower. I love good science fiction (Inception, 2001, Avatar, Her), and movies with lush visuals, such as Life of Pi.
Old-school artsy-pop: Bowie, Talking Heads are favorites. And a lot of newer stuff: Tegan and Sara, White Stripes, Black Keys, Rage Against the Machine, Miike Snow, LCD Soundsystem, the Strokes....
I'm a big podcast fan, especially Radiolab. Also Design Matters and NPR's Wait-Wait, and Science Friday, to name a few.
I enjoy nonfiction : Dava Sobel, Walter Isaacson, Malcolm Gladwell, Anthony Bourdain... At this point my reading is mostly browsing in periodicals: Wired, Science, National Geographic....
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Seeing the Cassini pictures of Saturn and its moons. The beauty and majesty of those images is just stunning. This is the first time in human history that people have had the privilege of seeing the wonders of the other planets and moons, close-up. I've worked with a lot of images from NASA and JPL, files that anyone can download for free from their websites.
