About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Not sure what to do with my life; therefore, finding out...

ABOUT ME

I'm a recent college graduate with a dual major in Geology and Economics. I'm planning on attending graduate school for geology, and I'm hoping to spend the next year working odd research-related jobs and traveling. I'm soon embarking on a bicycle trip to Europe and (hopefully) a trip to India.

I love taking photos, adding to my rock collection, and tinkering with bicycles.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm always drawn to new experiences. I teach myself a lot of things (recently, bike repairs, computer programming), but I don't practice the things I know (violin) enough.

I can't decide things, and I hate limiting my options. I've always pulled myself in many different ways and end up just taking the direction towards which my experiences pull me. Can't say that has served me badly thus far.

I can best assemble these vague ideas into a serviceable life history when talking to someone new and interesting. If you want detail, best talk to me in person!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My interest in CouchSurfing was born out of a need for cheap housing while exploring on a college-student budget. Once I am back in a stable place to live, I'd love to host someone...

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had some wonderful experiences with couchsurfing -- all of my hosts have been tremendous fun and I've really enjoyed the many hours of conversation that I've had. Everyone has such cool experiences to share!

Interests

Cycling is a major joy of my life. I am also a sailor and a violinist. I enjoy photography, good design, tall buildings, mountains (and the rocks they are made of), music, and tennis. I like programming, oddly (probably because I'm not trying to make a career of it). This is not an exhaustive list, but those are the main ones I can think of at the moment.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music of all sorts. I need to listen to more jazz. I love classical music, especially Beethoven, but also others (Elgar, Berlioz, Rachmaninov, Mussorgsky).

I'm also partial to indie-rock (though that genre designation has always seemed vague and annoying to me)...I particularly adore Four Tet, Yann Tierson, the Flashbulb, and others.

U2's great, but less so in recent years. The Talking Heads are amazing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I biked across the United States from North Carolina to San Diego during the summer of 2008, and built with Habitat for Humanity on the way across. Bike and Build is an amazing organization...

Teach, Learn, Share

A bicycle's bottom bracket is a housing that fits into the frame where the pedals are attached. It consists of two bearing races (one on each side) which allow the pedals to turn freely.
