About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Work hard, play/chill/travel hard.

ABOUT ME

Currently back in Devon from the BVI, where to go next..? London, Bangkok or Asheville?

I'm an collector of weird & wonderful experiences, & more than anything I love to travel. I've also got a very dry & some might say slightly twisted sense of humour. So, if you feel you do as well & if you crease up at the stand-up acts of Louis CK, for example, then we'd probably get along very well.

Despite my dark sense of humour I really don't mean to offend anyone. I'm very open-minded about pretty much everything & I'd've gotten into trouble long before now if I wasn't respectful of the customs & cultures of the people I meet around the world.

I love going on adventures, however big or small. I have a vivid imagination & I usually remember my blockbuster movie-style dreams when I wake up in the morning. I love storms, driving at night in aimless exploration or taking midnight walks around central London. I like Japanese pop culture, old Sega games (Saturn games, mostly), I like being cosy - hanging out in a big car on a coastline while it gets battered by oncoming storms, or being huddled around a fire in a little cottage while it snows outside.

I'm outgoing & I do like to be social, but I'm usually not really one for conventional nightclubs. If I feel the need to dance, I will, but I'm more inclined to want to spend an evening enjoying the company of some good people with some interesting stories. I don't mean necessarily just sitting around - I'm pretty much up for anything. But I do like to be able to hear the person I'm chatting with without having to ask them to shout themselves horse over thumping techno.

Having said that, I do love the sound camps at Burning Man.. Other things I really get a kick out of include fire-hooping & photography, good conversation, manic & primal drum-circle type dancing - when the mood takes me, although sadly there isn't as much of that in British nightclubs as I'd like there to be.. Board games/silly drunken quizzes with friends after good, home-cooked meals & cocktails. Sitting in the line-up, waiting for a good set of waves to appear on the horizon, tiny, close-knit moorland raves, drum circles in American town squares, walking through huge, bustling, busy cities without a map, relaxing in remote jungle treehouses &.. Lots more things that you'd just have to ask me about..

PHILOSOPHY

Do what makes you happy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment, my participation is unfortunately limited to spreading the word of Couch Surfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Although I have had a lifetime of surfing the couches of & hosting friends & friends of friends, I've actually only 'officially' CouchSurfed (as in, through the CS website) a couple of times. Once, in St Augustine, FL & once in Camden, London. Both really great experiences!

Interests

Travel, photography, world history, reading, writing, going on adventures, however big or small.. I love storms, driving at night, big, fun, open-minded gatherings of fun & opening-minded people.. Fire hooping, good conversation, board games/silly drunken quizzes with friends after good, home-cooked meals.. Tiny, close-knit moorland raves, walking through huge, bustling, busy cities.. Burning Man, of course.. There's really far too much to try & squeeze into this little box.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The Beach, Spirited Away, Riding Giants, American Beauty, Moulin Rouge, Lost In Translation, Jurassic Park & about a million others.

Music: Ever-changing, but right now I'm very much enjoying Shpongle, Deadmau5, Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, Bjork & Cliff Martinez' Solaris OST.

Books: 'Chasing Dean' by Tom Anderson, 'Yoga, for people who can't be bothered to do it' by Geoff Dyer, 'The Beach' by Alex Garland, 'The Lost World' by Michael Crichton & The 'Harry Potter' series by JK Rowling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Driving a tuk-tuk around the highway networks of Bangkok was really fun, watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat was totally amazing. Going to Burning Man is always fantastic, and staying best friends with an ex is something really very special indeed. Yes, i know that's not 'one thing'..

Teach, Learn, Share

A few things i've learned:

"Southern Hospitality" is very real in the USA.
Parisians are totally different from other French.
Most Thais swear by the "work hard, play hard" ethos.
New York really never sleeps.
Never, EVER fly into JFK Intl.
Native Southeast Asians are generally 'better' drivers than most, or at least more 'aware'.
Jacksonville, FL radio stations are among the best in the world.
Spain is for the most part a vast, arid expanse of bleakness, spotted with tiny oases of deliciously rich culture.
And many parts of Florida feel exactly like Vice City - best experienced from behind the wheel of a red Ferrari while listening to Ozzy Osbourne's "Miracle Man".

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, France, Indonesia, Ireland, Laos, Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, Viet Nam, Virgin Islands, British

Countries I’ve Lived In

United Kingdom, United States
