Über mich
CURRENT MISSION
Wrote a book, so um... write another one. How do I do that? Go travelling again I spose... Bordertown USA here I come!
ABOUT ME
Live for travel, playing music, film, writing, food and booze and of course live music (which are infinitely better when combined). Although I appreciate every fucker out there has to work, I am a writer - so I struggle to understand why it is so hard to see the world while doing what I want to do (and getting paid for it) so it does not feel like work - that is not asking too much is it?
PHILOSOPHY
The weight on my shoulders reminds me that I'm free
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
One of the most treasured experiences of travelling, which continually fuels my wanderlust is the exchange of hospitality between host and gentlepeople of the road. Although described in much greater eloquence in scriptures relating to wandering pilgrims and peregrinators, I still find it incredibly relevant today to travellers & seekers alike. And to me it feeds into the endless, somewhat banal debate over what is a true traveller. I embrace both sides of the hospitality exchange, which Couchsurfing has made infinitely more accessible. But whereas a tourist looks solely towards the getaway, I believe a traveller no matter where they are & how they are situated, is constantly looking out for this experience.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Arrived in Mexico with 2 months in my savings account made Panama the goal, so it wasn't unexpected by the time I arrived in Panama City I already had designs to jump on a boat to Columbia. A month later down in Leticia, on the tri-border of Peru & Brazil prudence stepped in, inveigling me to stop, fly up to the USA where I had a return flight from LA, spend 3 weeks celebrating the end of the journey and get back with some cash still in my pocket. I did this, but cos I had such a blast Csurfing, with amazing people in every city goading me to stay longer, 3 weeks turned into 8 weeks and I only left cos I was broke - oh and the book I wrote encompassing a decade of global budget travel was about to be released in Australia, called 'Loves, Kerbsides & Goodbyes.' I blame Couchsurfing - and I mean that in the nicest possible way! So what now? Write another book I spose & to honour linear narrative it seems to make sense to start where I last departed so Bordertown USA here I come!

Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe
In Order:- Saw a book I wrote encompassing over a decade of global budget backpacking called 'Loves, Kerbsides & Goodbyes' get published & now sitting upright on bookstore book shelves- Fell a little bit in love again- Saw the Pacific & Atlantic Oceans from a single panorama- Hiked alone & unaided to El Mirador, the inaccessible Mayan ruin just below the Mexican border in Guatamala- Saw a sun that never went down- Pulled my socks up- Oh yeah!- Followed the blue highways of my literary heroes and completed a 17,000 mile roadtrip around North AmericaFinally fell into a one-in-a-million love, the sort they name stars after, but it turns out sometimes there's no beating the odds
