Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I love great ideas, radical notions, mythic stories, flavorful food, rich soil, shades of blue, bicycles, bodies of water, strong women, gay men, slowing down, slow food, redolent flowers, vegetarian cooking, Indian cooking, driving down bumpy dirt roads where everyone waves hello, the chilis used in American southwest cuisine, contemporary art, queer theory, poetry, pooches, pussys, NPR, and dry wines. Embroidered Ukrainian shirts, cabbage rolls, and both green and red borshch. I love pottery and wish everyone had their own--handmade, and I'm searching for someone to help me make my own set. I love tiny houses and hope to build my own in the not too distant future blurring the line between inside and outside, nature and man-made. LGBTQ+ friendly!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Couchsurfing has been amazing! I've traveled across the U.S. using this site and I've been so grateful for how trusting and generous the community has been!
Interests
I stayed with a man in my travels who was a Ken Wilbur fanatic, and I'm interested in reading some of his work and learning his states and stages of spiritual development.
Music, Movies, and Books
Historical fiction and documentaries (I make them) are usually my preference. I made a documentary on the world's first transgender mosque in Indonesia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00IMmwx5YY8
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ran with giraffes in Kenya, stayed in Dogen's monasteryin Japan, ate dosas from Southern India, stayed awake all night at the Church of the Holy Supulchre in Jerusalem, hiked through Petra in Jordan, lived with faeries in Tennessee and New Mexico, saw the most brilliant skies throughout the American Southwest, saw the sun rise from the top of the Buddhist complex of Borobudur in Java and Mount Sinai in Egypt. Saw the midnight sun on top of the Holandsfjorden Sommerset Mountain in northern Norway. Had the best Thai massage on my way to trek Northern Thailand. Encountered a grizzly bear and black bear in Yellowstone and drove out under a rainbow that that had 7 colors (rather than the typical six). Jumped multiple times into a freezing cold pool with other Ukrainians after their traditional steam sauna. Marveled at the medieval, renaissance, and baroque architecture of the 13th century Wawel Castle in Krakow, Poland. Lived with the leader of the Massai tribe in Kenya. Spent a week hiking to Machu Picchu and another week in ceremony in the Amazon rainforest. Searched out the best street tacos in Mexico City.
Teach, Learn, Share
I recently took a fermentation class with Sandor Katz so I'm excited about experimenting with all sorts of ferments--I have lemon pickles and sourdough on the counter right now!
I hope to continue my study of Marshall Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication (NVC) model.
