About Me

Hello!

I'm a English/Dutch guy about half way through my round the world trip. Probably a stereotype in this part of the world, but I've got to be honest!

Having spend 5 months traveling in India/Nepal and SE Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Singapore), I have been settled in Melbourne for the last 8 months catching up with friends from travels (past and present) and working my ass off. It's nearly time for me to move on and to get back on the road, finally getting my chance to visit the east coast on my mission up to Cairns to get my diving master and see the Great Barrier Reef (2 from the bucket list)

I am a big fan of cooking, so I would be really keen to have the opportunity to cook as a means of repayment, and I have a pretty extensive music taste which I would be happy to share with you

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I like the idea of it, and have heard some great things to friends who have used it in the past! I've only got the one reference from a while back when I used it to travel back from Finland, and would be looking to change that.

Music, Movies, and Books

I have a pretty massive and varied music taste, generally I end up being the "DJ" at gatherings.

Series; The Wire, Better call Saul, Breaking bad, Rick and Morty, Making a Murderer, Black mirror, Mad Men, Southpark, Stranger things, West World etc.

Movies; Thrillers, Dramas and Sci Fi are more my scene
Some foreign movies too, "City of God" and "das leben von anderen" were really great watches
DiCaprio movies are some of my favorites; Django, Gatsby, Shutter Island, Inception
Films which have a historical basis too; Invictus, The imitation game, the theory of everything, Munich

I'm not necessarily picky, any films which have an interesting plot or gives me a new perspective on something or someone.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Probably my month of solo travel in India would be the most wild travel I have done. Making my way around that massive and vibrant country was a real test of my ability to improvise. Taking night buses and trains 15+ hours to get to my next destination, bartering with rickshaw drivers (and occasionally getting to drive the bloody things), and not to mention the amazing food!

Or 2 weeks motorbiking I spent in the North of Vietnam, doing the Ha Giang loop, seeing some of the most spectacular sights on some of the most sketchy roads. Fortunately, no (significant) injuries.

Honestly, after my time there, I feel like I could go anywhere and not be surprised anymore.

Another would be one of the road trips I did with my brothers, a southern Europe road trip, through Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France and Luxembourg in a car older than myself, and a secondhand caravan which was barely road worthy. Met some really cool people along the way, and had some great experiences, picking up hitchhikers along the wa
I much prefer to make tours of counties, rather than visit just cities. You get a much better idea of a country if you avoid just "city hopping", and actually travel through it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I listen to a lot of Music and podcasts, which I would happily share and discuss. I am also a pretty decent cook, and would always be open to cooking together and sharing a bottle of wine!

I would really appreciate the chance to have someone show me around, and do as the locals do whenever possible

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am a pretty easy going person, and would happily share a couple of beers/wine and a good chat.
