About Me
Hey, I'm David. I’m a 34-year-old engineer from Germany who finally decided to give this platform a try. I’ve spent a fair amount of time traveling, and I’ve realized that the people you meet are usually the most interesting part of the trip.
While I’m not new to this community, so far I’ve only used it for hangouts not for actual surfing. But I promised myself to be brave now and try it out!
I’m looking forward to sharing stories, exchanging perspectives, and learning about your corner of the world!
I'm into a bit of everything, but nothing too serious. I play drums in a small band just for fun. It’s more about the music and hanging out than actually being 'good' at it. I also like catching live shows when I can.
I spend a fair amount of time outdoors, mostly just to get some fresh air and clear my head on a trail. When I’m traveling, I’m usually the guy trying to figure out a country’s history and how it shaped the way people live there today. I'm less about the dusty museum facts and more about understanding how a place actually 'ticks' and why things are the way they are.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Mainly to meet interesting people. For a long time I only used the hangout feature, to find people to share a meal with or got to interesting places.
Music, Movies, and Books
Music:
I’m mostly into the DIY side of things. Punk, metal, and anything with a bit of an underground scene. I’ve always preferred music that feels authentic over the mainstream pop stuff. That said, I’m definitely not stuck on the 'heavy' side; I’m just as happy listening to some ska, reggae, or a good singer-songwriter.
I also have a spot for electronic music, provided it’s got some soul to it. Basically, if it’s got a bit of character and isn’t just made for the radio, I’m probably into it.
Books:
I have a bit of a travel ritual: I usually try to read a book from the region I’m heading to before I get there. I’m not picky about the genre, whether it’s a novel or a piece of non-fiction. I’ve found some real gems this way. If you have any favorites from your area or just something you think everyone should read, I’m always keen for recommendations!
