About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To get across the states without being eaten by snakes, gators or bears.

ABOUT ME

I'm a warm and friendly chap who likes to mix with different people. I have a sense of adventure and love to be out in the wild. I'm Scottish and therefore distinctly uncomfortable about talking about myself, but I love experiencing new cultures, food, music and people.

PHILOSOPHY

Be kind to people. As Maya Angelou said "you know what the difference is between right and wrong...do right!". I believe that we are the creators of our own destinies and paths, so just do it. I love my quotes, so here's another; "When you dance to the beat of your own drum your tribe will find you".

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't done this before, formally, although I've been known to pick up strays in Glasgow and Aberdeen. When I'm back home I'll host anybody, I'm a trusting sort.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

A bit of a newbie to this site but have couchsurfed informally in Germany, France and currently in the US.

Interests

I love to go hiking (I'm going to get into rock climbing this summer) and just expending lots of energy outdoors. I'm not an avid telly watcher (I prefer the furniture to be facing each other, rather than a TV) and prefer to read books, watch movies or have good conversation. I play most sports (with varying degrees of competence) and can knock a tune out of a piano and accordion (although not simultaneously). I love reading and writing. I'm currently reading a book by Zora Neale Hurst and it's stunning.

Music, Movies, and Books

Shawshank, Les Choristes, Amadeus, A Night at the Opera (and most Marx Bros films), Forrest Gump...there are too many. Books; I read the book thief and thought it was perfect. I loved Papillon too, a great adventure!! Music. Rachmaninov and Mozart, Nick Ariondo trio (gypsy accordion stuff) and most blues/punk stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The other night I lay in my hammock watching a stunning display by the local firefly population, I was the only person there, it was a pure privilege. I'm currently on a cross-country jaunt from Orlando to Florida on my bicycle. I guess that's pretty cool.
