About Me

Born to immigrant parents and spent my childhood in NYC. Moved to my current town in upstate NY at 11 years old. I am a person with diverse interests and experiences.

I couchsurfed for the first time this past summer, when I took a 5 day tour through Upstate New York.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Because I want to travel but do not have money(Isn't that why we are all on here?)

Also I want to meet new, interesting people. I believe that people involved in travelling and cultural exchange are among the most interesting people on Earth.

Interests

Some Main Interests:

Reading- Am especially interested in the classics of the world. I also enjoy reading non-ficiton, especially history. I am very into Classical history.

Biking- I am not a serious cyclist, as I don't have much money for a good bike and gear, but this is one of my favorite hobbies. The summer of 2015 I biked 230 miles/370 km from my hometown to Buffalo, where I study. Amazing experience .

Nature- I really like Nature; learning about it, spending time with it, preserving it.

Travelling- This is by far my favorite hobby, but also the one I do the least. I am young, and don't have much money of my own, but at 16 years old I was lucky enough to be an exchange student in Taiwan for a year and this has sparked my interest in travelling. I have been to vacations in Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and explored history in Rome. My experience living in host families in Taiwan was the best of my life. I have also been to Russian and Israel, where I have family.

Socializing- Whether it be partying, taking walks, or sitting for hours at a cafe talking with a friend, my favorite thing to do is socialize. I enjoy being in the company of any number of people, and love to talk. This aspect of my personality, although not unique in any sense, is a major factor of my life.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music- I generally enjoy all music with an artistic quality, however I will admit I don't like to listen to too much pop music. I am really into Hip Hop music of all kinds, especially older and underground stuff. I am slowly getting in Jazz and believe that as I get older my musical interests will "age" as well and I will be very into Jazz and Classical music.

Movies- I love movies. I believe that cinema is one of the highest forms of human artistry and creativity. I don't enjoy mainstream action films at all, but everything else I can appreciate. I have enjoyed many films throughout my lifetime. My favorite films recently have been Lawrence of Arabia and the Korean version of Oldboy.

Books- I have been reading all my life and continue to do so, yet do not have a favorite author or book. Although I will say that Dostoevsky is one of my favorite authors of all time, and his book Crime and Punishment has had a definite effect on the way I think and perceive the world. I read both non-ficiton and fiction books, and try to balance them out. I have not read much contemporary fiction as there are just so many important classics that I have not gotten through, but there are a few that I have enjoyed considerably, one of them being Shantarm, by Gregory David Roberts. This book has inspired me to travel and attempt to discover and understand and all the diverse people living our world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Spent a year as an exchange student in Taiwan when I was 16-17. I lived in host families and went to a Taiwanese high school.

Teach, Learn, Share

How to milk a cow. Haha. My family owns a small farm. I am down to learn everything that can be taught in a short amount of time.

I have a lot to say about my own cultural perspective and what I observed in all the places I have traveled to. I enjoy learning about and discussing different people and cultures/subcultures.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Experience exploring the language and culture of Taiwan. My own life experiences; living in New York City, then moving to a rural area and starting a farm. My own culture.

Insights, thoughts, aspirations, music interests, etc.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Taiwan, Vatican City State
