About Me

Aspiring particle physicist from the frozen wastes of Minnesota, USA. I am a college student that is taking a year off from school to make music, travel, and explore.

I am half-Colombian and have always wanted to visit the country, and I am excited to be visiting for the first time in May!

I'm a native Spanish speaker, can speak some French, have some basic Mandarin Chinese proficiency, and have studied Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to experience the places I visit through the eyes of the people who live there instead of just existing in a tourist bubble. I want to meet people from all over the world!

I'm currently living with my parents, so unfortunately I can't host anyone for the time being, but look forward to doing so once I have my own place again.

Interests

Music is my passion: I play piano and violin, and produce electronic music. I also DJ, and host a radio show at my university. Definitely interested in going to concerts and sharing tunes.

I like visiting art museums and trying to figure out what emotions or ideas the artwork was intended to convey.

Love Ancient Egypt and hope to visit the country of Egypt someday.

And of course, science, reading, and philosophy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:

I listen to almost every kind of music, especially hip-hop, electronic, post-punk, and shoegaze. Favorite artists include Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan, Joy Division, Manu Chao, Hucci, Slowdive, Tim Hecker, Burial, Coldplay, 2pac, and Bones.

I also really love Andean folk and nueva cancion. I grew up listening to Inti Illimani and Quilapayun. Let me know if you can recommend any artists or know of any concerts in this beautiful genre.

Movies:

Any David Lynch or Quentin Tarantino or Pixar film. Also science fiction and spaghetti westerns.

Books (authors because I love reading so much and don't want an infinitely long list of books):

Neil Gaiman, Ray Bradbury, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, David Foster Wallace, Roberto Bolaño, Jorge Luis Borges, Isabel Allende, J.K. Rowling.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Shook hands with Francois Englert, the 2014 Nobel Prize Winner in Physics.
Crowd surfed to Zedd at Summerset Music Festival.
Hiked up Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire, USA.
Attended Lollapalooza 2015 in Chicago, USA.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:

I practice mindfulness meditation, and am always down to share this wonderful method to clear your mind, reduce stress, and increase focus.

If you want to learn some basic Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs then I'm your man!

Learn:

Interested in learning to play new instruments, especially the pan pipes!

Interested in learning to dance salsa, cumbia, bachata, really any form of Latin dance. Everytime I hang out with my Colombian friends I'm the only one who doesn't know how to dance these styles and at this point it's getting kind of embarrassing.

Great stories and good times.
