Hello! My name is David Goodman. I’m an American field biologist. I spent most of last year working in Africa (Madagascar working with lemurs and West Africa doing anti-poaching work). All of that work was in French, but now I’m starting to work in the Spanish speaking world. I’ll be working in Ecuador this summer doing botany in the Andes! I’m super excited!

I’m traveling around Spain this spring trying to speak as much Spanish as possible before my job in South America. Tengo un nivel de español suficiente para trabajar ahora, pero quiero continuar mejorando así que puedo hablar más fácilmente cuando esté en Quito!

I'm interested in a lot of things! I read a lot, watch a lot of movies, play chess tournaments, am an avid birder, play squash, tennis and soccer, and play the guitar and the flute. I like to talk about philosophy, politics, books, movies, everything! I especially like talking to people about what they're interested in. It's a great way to discover new cool things!

Aussi, j’aime rencontrer des gens. Quand je voyage seul, je peux vite devenir un peu déprimé. Je peux être seul pendant quelques jours (je n’ai pas peur d’être sans autres haha), mais finalement je dois être social pour rester heureux. Je suis extraverti!

J’ai fait du Couchsurfing en France en automne du 2023 pour la première fois, et c’était vraiment incroyable. J’ai fait des amis que je n’aurais jamais rencontrés autrement.

To meet new people and make friends around the world. It's also very nice on this road trip, so I can avoid spending the night by myself in motels. It's much more pleasant to have dinner with new friends!

Movies:
In The Mood for Love, a 2000 film from Wong Kar Wai. Romance set in Hong Kong with a young Tony Leung. Its a little slow-paced but SO GOOD. Also like Kurosawa, Cuaron, Miyazaki, etc.

Books:
This is hard. I read a lot of fantasy novels, in that vein I like Brandon Sanderson, Jim Butcher, Ursula K LeGuin. Peter Singer for philosophy, Noam Chomsky for political theory. My favorite nonfiction book I've read in the last couple years was Range by David Epstein.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

I worked as a biologist in Costa Rica for 3 months. I worked as a ski instructor in Aspen, Colorado during Covid. I biked from Seattle to San Francisco, over 1000 miles! I've worked as a ceramicist, EMT, line cook, and horse trainer. Though I work as a biologist, I did my thesis in college in archaeology!

J’ai travaillé comme biologiste au Costa Rica pendant 3 mois. Je travaillais comme moniteur du ski à Aspen, Colorado pendant Covid. J’ai fait du vélo de Seattle à San Francisco aux États Unis, vers 1600 km! J’ai travaillé comme céramiste, ambulancier, cuisiner, et entraîner de chevaux. Je suis biologist maintenant, mais j’ai fait mon mémoire à l’université en archéologie !
