About Me

I conquered couch surfing in the US. Now I'm in the center of the world, hosting surfers like crazy until I've hugged (and made eggs and coffee) for all 8 billion people in this crazy world!

Couchsurfing philosophy:
Couchsurfing is my way of giving back to a world that has been very kind to me so many times. And I love that Couchsurfing knows no boundaries, and the element that binds us all together is trust. I trust you won't rob me blind while I'm sleeping; you trust that I'm not creepily watching you while you sleep. In the end, you walk away saving on a hotel bill, well slept, showered, phone charged, and perhaps even well fed. I walk away with a new friend, a new connection, and a warm feeling that I helped make someone's life just a little bit better. Everyone wins!!

Four things to be aware of:
1) I hosted A LOT of people in the States, but at the time I was living alone. My son is living with me now, and he has not quite warmed up to the idea of my hosting people yet. Anything you can do when you meet him to soften him up would certainly help. He'd love a regional souvenir, and is actually creating a coin collection for coins from around the world. Or a lesson in whatever language you speak (especially Chinese). Or we could all make dinner together, based on your country's cuisine. He LOVES pastries, especially chocolate ones (I would buy it here, not from wherever you're coming from, since we have dietary restrictions)! My suggestion is to bring a small box of rugelach from the Marzipan bakery (near the Mahane Yehuda market) or anything intensely chocolatey. He'll love you forever!! Mostly just recognize that whereas his father loves hosting people, his son's not much of a fan.

2) There can be potential exceptions, but generally I don't host on Friday nights and I'd prefer not Saturday nights also.

3) For the time being, I'm trying to stick to only committing to hosting for one night at a time. It's just a little too much to host much more than that right now. Exceptions are made.

4) I have a small dog (Frank). He's wonderful, friendly, and adorable. However, if you're not a dog fan, this might not be the perfect place for you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have extra room, and a whole bunch of small mattresses, and tons of pillows and blankets. I love doing things and having others around to have fun with is always great. I also LOVE to cook for people, if I get a chance. My son and I live together in a decent-sized apartment, a quick bus ride away from everything amazing in Jerusalem (or a long but really nice walk). As long as you don't mind sleeping on a mattress on the floor, not a huge amount of privacy, a very adorable dog, and a lot of movement quite early in the morning, you've found the right place. We're here to share what we have with others!

By the way, even if I can't host you or you're not looking for a host, I know a whole bunch about the country, especially Jerusalem. Feel free to ask me anything and to use me as a resource for your upcoming trip.

Interests

I have a ton of interests. To name a few: Computers, exercise, spending time with amazing people, cooking, comedy, writing (http://jaffeworld.com/ or my eBook: https://www.amazon.com/Teach-Ninja-David-Andrew-Jaffe-ebook/dp/B07F5Y6P79/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1530590624&sr=1-1), reading, volunteering, watching UFC, studying languages, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: 90s will always rule for me

Movies: So many! But I'll always love Braveheart, Animal House, A Few Good Men, Airplane, and The Princess Bride.

Books: Johnny Got his Gun, anything by Kurt Vonnegut

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

One? Boring!

I attended Israel's first ever Bellator MMA event. I went skydiving. I served for 15 months in the Israel Defense Force. I took my 12-year old son shooting. I once hosted a Tazmania-based death metal band. I can go on. As me when you get here!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you basic Hebrew and beginner guitar. I'm happy to show you around Jerusalem and tell you whatever I know. More than happy to correct your English grammar, if you're into that. :)

Teach me anything and everything! I want to hear about your culture and experiences. I want you to give me a super quick capoeira lesson. Tell me that great two-word phrase that works great to pick up women in your country. :) Show me how to crack an egg with one hand, draw a Smurf, or stand on my hand. Whatever it is, I'd love to learn it.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'd love the opportunity. In the meantime, I'm the one who hosts! (Sounds better in a Walter White voice)
