About Me

I love meeting people and learning about life from living it.
I am inquisitive and open-minded and open-hearted.
I've traveled a bit and want to travel more.
I live in Hamilton, Ontario, a very interesting and compassionate city. I moved here in Fall, 2018, after 23 years in Vancouver, BC, one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world.
I also am the father of three wonderful young adult children.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to meet and get to know people.
I love to help other people as they travel and explore this amazing world.
I want to see how people live.
I don't have much money. But, even if I had a lot of money, I would still much prefer to be at home with someone, to see their way of life, to meet and know them a bit, rather than stay in an impersonal hotel.
I have not stayed in a hotel for many, many years.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love nearly all music.

I can say my favourite movie is "Crash". It gives a great view of human relationships in our times, so complex, so real. I loved it.

Books? Oh, just too many to name. The last book I read and loved is "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande. I also just (May 2018) read "Unsettling Canada" by Arthur Manuel -- a great book for people who want to know the Canada that is usually hidden, i.e. the Canada that drove the indigenous people here off their land and stole 99.8% of it -- and "Hacks" by Donna Brazile about the horrible things that were done in the Democratic Party's failed campaign in the 2016 elections. Both were very good.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have hitchhiked in many countries. I lived in Nagoya, Japan, for two years in the very early '80's. I lived in Jerusalem for three years and in Tiberias for one. I have served as the rabbi of three different synagogues for over 20 years. I was the chaplain of a very large homeless shelter for two years with people who have impossibly difficult lives and very precious, beautiful souls. I am the father of three amazing children, two of whom are now adults.

(Oh, sorry, that's more than one. Oh, well.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share a lot about life, religion, spirituality, politics. Especially about Jews, Judaism, Hebrew, Bible, etc. But, far, far more than that.
