I am a cotton farmer in West Texas, USA. I have been married for thirty years and have six children, four of whom are adults. I love learning. History and geography, people and places have always been some of my favorite topics. I love traveling with my family to places they are willing and able to visit, but often I find myself traveling solo to places of interest to me but not them. I have made trips with my father, my grandparents, my beautiful wife of course, my at-home children, and my adult children. Most of my travel while in my 30s and 40s was domestic, since we were then a household of eight people. I am doing a lot more international travel these days.

While I love history and seeing new places, I have found meeting people to be the most rewarding aspect of travel. I have done some traveling through a club called Servas, which is a sort of older, more deeply vetted version of couchsurfing. Some of administrative hurdles to using Servas keep that group smaller and sometimes more difficult to use. I thought I would try couchsurfing to take advantage of the same, wonderful personal experiences I can occasionally find through Servas while expanding my options of people and places I can meet and visit.

I love music in almost any genre. I read a lot, and enjoy quality fiction, though I read a lot more nonfiction history, etc. I really do also enjoy movies. I like historical epics, musicals, good rom-coms, and even some spoofs and slap-sticks. I don't like slash-em-ups, but I can watch a good cerebral horror movie, like Silence of the Lambs. I have broad interest.

When I was 25, I bought a 1958 Piper Tri-Pacer (an old fabric and tube airplane) and flew it from Winterhaven, Florida, to North Pole, Alaska. I landed on grass strips and sometimes even slept under the wing. It was a very fun and rewarding trip, the likes of which relatively few people have done.
