About Me

I just turned 36 and am more curious about life than I ever have been, recently turned meditation praiser.
I'm a liberal spirit, not a big fan of any kind of authorities, and believe

'human beings are the best when you do you and I do me to the best we can, with everyone having general love, compassion and care for humanity.'

I love running, surfing, pumping iron, watching Mixed Martial Arts competitions. List extends to clubbing and dancing, good conversations and beers. Have not yet tried sky-diving but absolutely will. My wife thinks I'm crazy, asking me "why would you want to die?" But I say, "That's not the point, I want to try because I want to feel alive."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

A coworker recently got married and I had a chance to have proper lunch with her alone.
She loves traveling alone and has done so many times, using Couchsurfing. She also told me she met her husband and his family who hosted her in Morocco via Couchsurfing. Her travel stories sparked fire in me.

I grew up in 4 countries - South Korea, US, Canada and Japan - and have traveled well over 2 dozen destinations in a dozen countries across 4 continents.

I thought I've seen and done a lot. Then I came to realize I haven't traveled anywhere new last 6 years.
I've been a dad 6 years to a boy and a girl, thinking, 'well you kinda have to.. adjust to life with kids.'

Hey, I realize you only live once and exploring, expanding your experience doesn't have to be exclusive from being a good parent.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies:
I'm a huge movie fan.

- The Power of One: It moved me the first time I saw it. I still love it. Africa, life, boxing, loss, courage, drama. Everything in life, epic.
- The Truman Show: Genius, funny as hell in a sad way that still makes you laugh in a weirdly triumphant way.
- The Dark Knight: Master piece.

Books:

- The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life > Really good, makes you laugh to tears and stomach aches, but super sharp insights about how you deal with life.
- 태백산맥: True Epic novel on Korean history around Korean War time.
- Thunder from the East: Portrait of a Rising Asia: Interesting portrait of Asia, written while back.

Music:
- Basically anything that sounds good to my ears regardless of genre
- Rap, Rock, Techo, Classic, R&B. All of them.
- Linkin Park, Drunken Tiger, Dynamic Duo, Panic, Eminem, Cold Play, Jay Z, many more..

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I taught English as a part time job when I was a college student.
A student and I became close friends. He got inspired by my stories and decided to study abroad himself.
He went to the US, studied and became an English teach himself later when he came back to Japan.
Helping someone to challenge and succeed in a big way was pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share the little knowledge I have about living in different places I lived at - Seoul, California, Toronto and Tokyo. I'm really into learning about what the life of locals is like wherever the destination may turn out to be.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share stories and thoughts from my life and experiences - being born in Korea, having to adjust to a completely different environment twice (in the US and Japan). Small joys from being a dad to 2 children, who has mom and dad coming from different national backgrounds. I'm not a great cook, but I'm confident in my salads and cook up some Korean food too - if I can find ingredients near by. I can share what it's like to work at Nike, having worked in digital marketing/e-commerce/mobile app fields.
