Music, Movies, and Books

I appreciate most music. I play just a little piano and guitar. I am really into The Great Courses, and listen in my car, anything from astronomy to philosophy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I watched clouds rolling like a river one thousand feet below me one morning after waking up from camping on top of a mountain in the Appalachians.

I have watched sunrises from my kayak on Lake Summit where shafts of golden like illuminated spiraling mist rising all around me in orange and red like fire.

I have watched a sunrise on the Atlantic after camping alone on an island, then collected huge shells, which came alive and crawled all over my car while I was on the highway.

I have hiked some of the toughest sections of the Appalachian Trail and seen 4 separate mountain ranges sprawling in every direction in 360° around me from the top of a high Mountain Bald called Max Patch.

I placed 5th at the Masters Swimming 1 Mile Open Water Nationals.

I played in a punk band, we sucked but had fun. Later I played in a decent alt-rock band. We had some amazing times that I cannot write about publicly.

100 mph on a modified Suzuki 500 ATV on the beach in Mexico's Gulf of California.

I once took an ATV at high speed over a cliff in the sand dunes of Southern Utah. It crushed a vertebrae, but I had extras!

I have mountain biked the kind of trails that are the reasons that Mountain biking exists: Dupont Forest, Pisgah Forest, what amazing places. I once did an unintentional endo at 48 mile per hour and managed not crap my pants.

I assisted a professional hockey player who wedged his car sideways between two trees in Yellow Stone National Park in Wyoming.

I slept in a tiny 100 year old school house in the middle of nowhere in southern Montana.

I assisted with Genetic cancer research as a lab tech. I assisted with research that was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. I have published radiology research.

I worked as a Dorm Parent at a private School for Deaf Children who came from all over the world.

I have been elected President of the North Carolina Chiropractic Associations Western District, three times.

I married the girl I fell for the first day of 8th grade. She was so creeped out by my staring that she scratched my face out of her yearbook. It took me a while, but, I won in the end!

I have a son who will probably never speak. He is 14 and autistic and has never written or spoken a word but communicates so much without words. That is probably the most amazing part of my life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have minors in philosophy and chemistry and spent 10 years full time in college just dabbling around. So, I love to learn and share.
