About Me

What to say about me?
I'm a humble and kind student of English and Czech language and literature from the Czech republic, utterly horrible at describing myself. But I'm a person eager to explore new places and meet new people from all around the world!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

After years of sitting at home and warming my buttocks, I finally gathered enough courage to do something at least remotely adventurous and went for a semester abroad, meeting lots of wonderful people. The experience have woken up the curious part of my self, making me wanna not only see the rest of the big piece of rock we call Earth, but mainly make friends with the people living on it. And couchsurfing seems like the right way to do it.

Interests

If procrastination and aimless wandering through the remote corners of the internet counted as a hobby, it would definitely earn the number one spot on my list. But besides wasting my precious time on Earth by browsing for useless stuff, I tend to read a lot, watch films, make a fool of myself in a band a play with, and occassionally travel, of course.

Music, Movies, and Books

A hard to please reader, going through a lot ofEnglish (Shakespeare!) and American literature, mostly the 20th century (with Fitzgerald, Nabokov or McCarthy being some of my favourites). In love with the Czech lit and novelists such as Kundera, Škvorecký, Vaculík and Havlíček, or poetry of Reynek, Zahradníček and Sládek; always enjoying introducing foreigners to some of the gems of our little forgotten country! Just don't ask me what my favourite book is, I can never pick one.

I have also a newly-found passion for comics books, as long as they don't get too superhero on me. I love the autobiographical genre, with Satrapi's Persepolis, Bechdel's Fun Home, or Thompson's Blankets topping the list, and I admire the work of David Mazzuccheli (Asterios Polyp), Gilbert Hernandéz (Palomar stories), Jeff Lemire (Underwater Welder), Brian K. Vaughan (his writing on Saga and Paper Girls), or Gabriel Bá and Fábio Moon (Daytripper), just to name a few.

To answer the most important question of them all, I am a Star Wars fan, Star Trek bores me to death. I am also a huge LOTR nerd, able to quote at least half of the trilogy and spend countless hours bashing the new Hobbit adaptation, Generally, I watch a lot of stuff and I have a weird habbit of memorizing all the actors and directors in the Hollywood, just to impress random people in pubs.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I am still waiting for the amazing stuff to come...
