About Me

I currently live and work in Guadalajara, Mexico, but I am originally from Muncie, Indiana. After finishing a degree in Anthropology, I decided to make the move to Guadalajara so that I could continue to work on my Spanish and complete a certificate course for teaching English as a second language. After completing my certificate, finding an awesome job teaching English to young professionals, and realizing that I had A LOT of work to do on my Spanish, I decided that I would stay here for a couple of years at least. Last year found me moving in with my girlfriend and her son which is a big change that I am still adapting to. However, I find myself thinking more seriously about establishing myself here permanently and finding a way to develop my current profession into a lifelong career.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first heard about Couchsurfing some years ago from some American friends of mine here in Mexico. Since then, I have met a variety of people who have either hosted others, or stayed with hosts while traveling. Everyone I know has spoken very highly of their experiences. I have thought about creating an account so that I could host people myself, but my accommodations don't tend to be very accommodating. I also work a lot and feel that it would be extremely difficult to be a good host. I have created the account today, because I am looking for a place to stay during a short trip to the Mexican Consulate in Laredo Texas.

Interests

I do some light reading, guitar playing, and beer drinking, but nothing serious. I am currently trying to involve myself more in the world of teaching English as a second language for the purpose career advancement. I work a lot, so I spend very little time doing anything outside of work and sleep.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am just going to do this as a free-writing experiment since I don't spend a lot of time thinking about what my favorite things are. So, I am just going to say that my favorite music is anything experimental, my favorite movie is Superbad, and my favorite book is Slaughterhouse Five. **Everything I just said is subject to change.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went skydiving once. That was pretty amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm... I am really uncertain about what I am supposed to fill in on this one, but I'll give it a shot.

Teach: I currently teach English as a second language as my main line of work.

Learn: I am generally interested in learning about all things culture and language. I am currently trying to get up to speed in the areas of learning technology and pedagogy.

Share: I am usually interested in sharing whatever I have.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will be happy to buy beer and food on any visit to a host. I would absolutely love to share my advanced level domestic skills by cleaning up after myself and helping with anything around the house as time permits. I will be glad to chat and share experiences.
