Overview
About Me
Independent IT, food & drink chaser, ultramarathon fan, avid reader and love hearing about what others read and think.
NOTE: I need to update my profile, as anything here about my house and location are out-of-date. Went Full Nomad 4/2018 and not quite ready to start hosting again.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My already roomy and quiet house recently got roomier and quieter still. Also am set to travel more and with one experience each of hosting and staying am pretty enthused by the concept.
Interests
Travel, reading, long discussions of politics and current events, chasing ultrarunners (one in particular [UPDATE: she got away]), exploring local food.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like guitarist singer-songwriters like Joe Pug and Slaid Cleaves. The big music landmarks in my life are Fogelberg, Zeppelin, Floyd, Zevon, Jarrett. That's kind of a capsule autobiography, really.
Movies are important to me. I like things like Beasts of the Southern Wild and Winter's Bone. Best thing I saw in 2014 was Nightcrawler.
Books are more important than both of those two, neither of them unimportant. Read about a book a week and have an entire room devoted to my library. I like to think of my house as pretty much _being_ a library, but with a bedrooms, kitchen, shower, and liquor cabinet. Most of the stereotypical middle-aged guy tastes: history, bio, literary fiction, and essays/memoir. DeLillo to McMurtry to Auster to Hustvedt to Bryson to Hitchens.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitched around the country when I was 19-20. Learned a lot, wouldn't repeat.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm all for all three. I can teach some techie things and know a fair piece about US History, lately have read a lot about race in America. I like learning about other people's cultures, attitudes, foods, reading habits and a lot else. I'll share any consumable in the house, including good bourbon but excluding toothbrushes and deodorant. Because that'd be weird.
Didn't see a spot for this but will put here: pet friendly, subject to common-sense provisos. Have a 50lb dog who's friendly and quiet, with back pen if anybody needs sequestered. Almost always travel with him, so if I'm not there he usually won't be either.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A bed and a bath, tips about area food and things to do. Work from home most days and need to make that a priority (gotta answer the phone, yo) but like good conversation. Also can just leave you be if that's your thing.
There's always at least one bedroom available. There's enough empty floor space that if you're the sleeping bag type I could fit as many as 5 or 6 surfers.
Be aware you need a car to comfortably surf here, unless you're a long distance bicyclist or hitchhiker passing through. It's a quarter mile down a gravel road to a state highway, then ~15 minutes to the eastern edge of Albuquerque. Not as remote as it feels sitting on the porch listening to the coyotes, but not a downtown loft either.
