About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Explore. Discover. Be Happy.

ABOUT ME

After 2 months of being home, I'm about to embark on another stint away from home, this time to New Zealand for a year. Since 2012, I've lived in the US, Canada, Australia and travelled another handful of places. I consider myself a pretty genuine guy. I don't bulls**t and am upfront and honest with people. I always treat others as I would like to be treated that is be respectful, courteous and just plain nice. I find I get along with most people and always up for meeting those from varied backgrounds and hearing their story. I'm not perfect and don't pretend to be - life is about learning and trying different things - I'm always up for accepting and considering different points of view. I try to live my life without preconceived notions of how people should live their lives - everyone has the right to make their own decisions free of judgement. Things would be very simple if worldwide people did this :)

PHILOSOPHY

Don't look past today wherever possible - nothing else is set.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I was first introduced to couchsurfing by a new friend in Canada. The usual questions followed (do we not pay them?) before the concept sunk in. Really love it now - kind of a guaranteed way to meet like minded people and create shared, good times. Have used a handful of times and each experience has been unforgettable. I've been out of touch with it for quite a while now but hope get back into it over my year in new zealand.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Stayed with a host in Seattle - had an absolute blast - introduced us to all his friends and showed us all the best spots to see in the area. Great first taste of couch-surfing. Followed this up in Portland where I was lucky enough to be hosted by a fellow Irishman who showed me all the cool sites and pointed me in the right direction when he had to work. Another worth a mention was staying with nudists in Montreal. I've had some really varied experiences and feel really lucky! Hope they keep coming.

Interests

Travelling would probably top right now - the more place I see and people I meet, the bigger my list gets! You learn so much from up-rooting yourself and exploring somewhere new - prompts self-development and positive change. I really like chatting to others over a casual chat and hearing their side and perspectives on things.

I'll try anything once. Like outdoors/active stuff like kayaking, rock-climbing, cycling, hiking, swimming. I've turned into a bit of a fan of yoga over the past couple of years too. Not too much of a worldly, earth fella but I like how it helps relax both your body and mind. . . and spandex just looks so good on me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Big fan of the new Batman trilogy. Love a good horror like Saw (the original). Stupid comedies are good too e.g South Park film, We're the millers.

South park and Futurama up there with favourite programmes - also currently working my way through Breaking Bad (behind, I know)

I have very, very open music taste. I never know where to find good music so love when it comes to me from others. Like anything from cheesy pop to indie, sca. . .I like songs where I can find something unique in the lyrics, beat, arrangement etc.

Generally go on recommendations for books. Like harry potter, lord of the rings and the golden compass series. 50 shades of gray was worth a laugh too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

There are two:

Road tripped through the rockies - had a very sore jaw by the end of the week - breathtaking scenery at each turn and great company - if I ever experienced total contentment that was it.

Scuba diving the Barrier Reef in Australia - really is a different world down there. Crystal clear waters, amazing fish, beers at sunset...REPEAT. 3 days wasn't long enough.

Teach, Learn, Share

My Irish accent and the Irish language. Almost have hand stands learnt too so I'm a willing spotter :)

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Fiji, Portugal, United States, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In
