About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Darn, I know I left it around here somewhere...

ABOUT ME

I write songs so beautiful they can only be played once.
My random musings formed the preamble of a new nation's constitution.
My silhouette is copyrighted.
I breed dragons, but I recognize that showing them would be pretentious.
My moments of clarity have caused brownouts on the east coast.
My name can be used as a verb, but only in the imperative form.

I am the second most interesting man in the world.*

PHILOSOPHY

Big question, so I'll keep it to two words: golden rule.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am looking to host two J-1 students who are working in Portsmouth or Kittery for the summer. Please contact me for details.

我学习中文。我想认识汉语说的人。

Interests

photography, bicycling, swimming, hiking

I am fascinated by languages and linguistics, and how language interacts with culture. I am dabbling in learning Mandarin and Arabic (but not enough to even qualify as beginner)

Music, Movies, and Books

I read mostly popular nonfiction such as freakonomics and books of that ilk. I'm a huge fan of Breaking Bad, enjoying new episodes of better call Saul. I wish I played the guitar, but I never learned beyond a few clunky chords. I had to give up learning the harmonica because it made my dog wail.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A couple years ago I did a trek into the Colombian jungle to "La Ciudad Perdida" ruins. Spectacular.

Last year was a trip to northern India including crazy Delhi and breathtaking Kashmir

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to eat a lobster.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I wish I had a special talent, like spinning plates or reciting Beowulf, but I'm just a generally nice guy.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba, Canada, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Guatemala, Iceland, India, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, Taiwan

Countries I’ve Lived In

France, United States
