About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To experience a bigger slice of the world. To make a career for myself. To have a good time. To get to know New York City.

ABOUT ME

I'm living in uptown Manhattan, a half hour from the suburb I grew up in. I work in midtown as a mechanical engineer. My goals for this period of my life are to have a wide variety of experiences and begin to hone in on what I truly enjoy; to decide on a career and position myself accordingly; to enjoy life, relax, meet people; and to get to know New York City and the surrounding areas.

Outside of the US and Canada, I have been to Europe twice, once ostensibly to study in 2011 and again purely to travel in 2012. It was on my semester abroad that I first couchsurfed.

I speak English (native/fluent), French (pretty well), Spanish (just ok), and a bit of Mandarin Chinese. Just beginning to dabble in Italian.

I do like science but my passions are in psychology and cultures.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that informed happiness is an attainable goal, and I'm using my life to prove it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Thrillers, suspense, action, and many other types of movies. Movies that make you think, and movies that don't make you think at all. Sin City, Audition, Oldboy, Princess Mononoke, Brick, Lola Rennt, Donnie Darko, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Motorcycle Diaries, Top Secret, Tarantino, Burton.

Mostly rock (punk/ska/arena/hard/art/alternative/etc) with some jazz, classical, and electronica thrown in. Mashups. Genres mean different things to different people. Music is the best!

100 Years of Solitude (Márquez), Crime and Punishment (Dostoyevsky), the Sound and the Fury (Faulkner), sci-fi short stories. En Attendant Godot and some French poetry, too. Not big on English language poetry but the Raven by Poe really blows me away.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Being in the arena with a hundred people and a bull during the running of the bulls in Pamplona.

Teach, Learn, Share

I always enjoy sharing my musical collection, and adding new music to it. I could teach you some simple origami or the basics of poker, or tell you some Norse myths if you'd like. I also know a thing or two about many fields of science, engineering, and mathematics. Perhaps what I most enjoy talking about is people and personalities. I would be more than happy to share my thoughts.

I am always interested in cooking tips and new recipes, and would be happy to share some of mine.

Countries I’ve Visited
