ABOUT ME

Dave: I left the US in 2010 and have never looked backed. After 4 years in the UK, 7 in NZ, we now live in Oz. Just prior to COVID before the world stopped, I joined the 7 (well 8 when Zealandia is accepted) continent club!

Heidi: I'm easy to get along with and am always looking to see and do new things. I previously worked for the NHS as a dietitian helping people to live healthier lives, and have recently completed my Master of Public Health degree. I love to sing and dance but tend only to do so when I think no one is looking.

PHILOSOPHY

Dave: I wake up every morning looking to learn something new. I have spent so much time in education because I strive to know as much as I can about many things. I like to be the one that people can have a discussion with on any topic and not be boring.

Heidi: Give everyone the benefit of the doubt and treat everyone like you would want to be treated (cliché I know, but true).

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We surf and host as frequently as possible!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Lots and all amazing!!! Dave has surfed on every inhabited continent and we have hosted travellers from everywhere except Africa. We also try to meet up with surfers even when hosting isn't needed.

Interests

Dave: spending time with our two husky pups Copper and Bjorn, baking (but I don't do this often because I hate washing up), most sports, travelling, riding around on an ambulance, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Dave: I can watch most any film, though I do gravitate to horrors, comedies, and action films. For music, I definitely prefer country, though I do like classic rock or instrumental stuff (especially if it's from my Uni's marching band) every now and again.

Heidi: Fantasy, biographies and rom-com for books and films, and for music I listen to most anything.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Dave: There are so many amazing things that I feel I have done such as performing for 100,000 people at NCAA championships (basketball and football) in the US, taking the Trans-Siberian railway mid-winter, visiting Antarctica, dog sledding across the Arctic Circle (twice), to snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef, and even a little bungy jumping and ice climbing in NZ.

Teach, Learn, Share

Dave: I would like to learn the basics of a few other languages, so now that I'm no longer a student, Duolingo here we go!

Heidi: Definitely learn more languages!

In terms of teaching...well, I have spent a lot of time in school so I may have an idea about what you want to know, so just ask. I specialise in sexual health, but know many other things about psychology (I'm trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy). I'm also a pretty good drummer and have performed across the US, Europe, and now NZ. As for practical skills...well they don't teach you that in uni, but I've managed to acquire a few, so just ask.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Fun chats about nearly anything. Dave can be a bit provocative in conversations, so always willing to discuss even those tough topics...maybe over some good food or wine?
