About Me

I am a student social worker, now towards the end of my second year of study.
In a past life I used to manage pubs, and still love the industry, but am now trying to find something more fulfilling.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Stefan Zweig wrote of how travel must be preserved as 'an extravagance, a sacrifice to the rules of chance, of daily life to the extraordinary...Only that way can we discover not only the exterior world but also that which lies within us'.

Interests

Obviously I love a trip out on my bike, little has the ability to fill hours of my day and me not tire of it in the least!
Otherwise I love music and cinema. Difficult to nail me down to particular types as I have quite an eclectic taste, but in general the slightly more alternative stuff of either medium.

Music, Movies, and Books

Favourite music at the moment is Vampire Weekend. There's something about their sound that really connects with me, but my tastes span from the interesting pop of Taylor Swift to the Jazz genius of Max Roach.
Movies, again I like quite a wide range, but boils down to anything that is essentially about character and relationship. So anything from Paper Moon at the lo-fi end to Inception at the more bombastic end.
Books I love, but don't seem to be able to get through anywhere near the amount that I would like to, and of late seem to reading almost solely non-fiction. Mostly books about psychology and sociology, but written in an accessible and interesting way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I guess the one amazing thing that I've done would be my last big trip; I travelled across the south of the US on the greyhound buses.
That was almost a decade ago now though, so it's high time to do something big all over again!

What I Can Share with Hosts

While I've not got a massive amount of space in my little shared house, I've got a double mattress under my bed.
Otherwise lots of hospitality, use of the facilities, and a warm place to lay your head.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Germany, Kenya, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, United States
