About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To try to develop my relationship with travel, and meet more remarkable people-

ABOUT ME

Let's see, I take myself to a thoughtful guy, someone would enjoys thinking about all sorts of things. I enjoy having conversations with people, spending time with my friends, though I do like my fair share of solitude. I think that, paired with my thoughtfulness, I'm pretty inquisitive and curious, interested in learning more about people and the world in general. I really love music, being in nature, good food.

PHILOSOPHY

This is a hard one... I think a central thing for me is being open to the world, to ways of thinking about the world, people, values, quality. It may be my philosophical studies, but I generally see solid, immovable, or absolute ideas I might have about the world as shaky, which pushes me to a stance of openness. I want to learn from people, be open to different ways of living and thinking, because of my relationships with people. I want to learn how to deal with and thrive in a life that has no purpose that is given to me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I traveled through Europe with a friend, couchsurfing throughout, and really enjoyed it. Back home, I'm mostly waiting to have the type of living situation appropriate for steady couchsurfing. Hopefully this will happen soon!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've really enjoyed couchsurfing, loved the fact that whenever I would couchsurf, I would have a unique access to the local culture that would be difficult to have otherwise. I've enjoyed making meals with my hosts, talking about the local food, cultural sites, history, etc. I've probably had the most fun in places when couchsurfing hosts take me to places they love to go, and don't try to do a tourguide sort of thing (though I have really enjoyed being shown the sites, for sure). Let's see, an example might be to take a bike-ride with a host down to a river on a hot summer day and swim across to an island, lay in the sun, and explore. That seems like an ideal couchsurfing experience to me (one that has happened, actually).

Interests

I love music, enjoying playing music (I can play the guitar and the piano fairly well) and listening to it. I love literature, particularly novels, and currently novels in translation. I'm fairly passionate about food, learning about the plants and learning how to make things, though this is a relatively new interest compared to the others I've stated. I take pictures occasionally, and enjoy working in the darkroom. I am an avid bicycle rider, enjoy working on bikes, traveling long or short distances by bike. I also liked building, fixing, and improving things, in general (hence being a woodworker).

Teach, Learn, Share

Things I can teach: basic piano and guitar, exposure to philosophy (especially existential philosophy), how to fix most things on a bicycle, basic carpentry and handy-man-ness.

Things I want to learn: anything about preparing food, how to build just about anything, how to be frugal, how to garden better
