Overview
About Me
I studied for a couple of years in the states, then joined the Navy, then traveled for a year in Iceland, Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Central America, and now I live in Hamburg with my awesome wife, Marleen, and our toddler, Charlie!! I have a terrible memory and I love to make lists and then forget to look at them.
Things you should know before sending me a request:
-Now that we have a kid, we have a lot less free time and availability.
-I prefer last minute requests (less than 3 days in advance). Even an hour in advance is okay.
-We don't host people without a complete profile.
- If you find a host before I respond or can confirm, please cancel your request, so that I'm able to help out other travelers.
:)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love the idea of a community of people getting a much more genuine cultural experience, while saving money and meeting people along the way. My Couchsurfing experiences have almost all been great, both hosting and surfing! My wife and I hosted 38 people during our first two months in our apartment :)
Interests
Traveling, photography, cooking, hiking, camping, basically anything outdoors, board games, drinking a glass (or four) of wine, animals, artwork, museums, environmental topics, adrenaline activities, playing sports (especially volleyball), etc..
At home, we really like to drink wine, cook food, and play board/card games. If you bring a board game or know a unique or local card game, that would be great! Or a cheap bottle of Riesling ;)

Music, Movies, and Books
I love music, especially various Rock genres, Motown, and Classical. I really don't like American Country music. I hope we can still be friends.
Ever since I started studying again I haven't found the energy to read outside of what is required..so much to read :'(
I saw Avatar 2 in 3D and it was a great experience.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
My wife and I hiked to the top of Volcán Tajamulco in Guatemala.
We also hosted a 2016/17 Couchsurfing NYE party in our apartment with 20+ other random Couchsurfers, and it was so much fun! (Also in 2018/19 and 2019/20).
Bungee jumping, sky diving, parasailing, volcano boarding, etc..
Teach, Learn, Share
I LOVE traveling, hiking, and photography! I also enjoy discussions on sustainability, ecological preservation, and various social issues. I'm currently studying Environmental Sciences at Oregon State University.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Hosts: We like to cook and share dinner with our hosts. We also like to bring some games with us to play, and have some interesting stories from our travels to share. Marleen plays the piano and I love photography! Marleen can teach you some German, and I can teach you some English.
:)
For guests: Our awesome company, conversations, a place to sleep, a warm shower, our awesome company, and she can tell you about Hamburg (I'm from the U.S.). If we have time and money, maybe we can have a meal or two together (we love cooking). If you're sad, we can also offer you a hug. If you're really sad, we can offer you two hugs.
We also have a book exchange!!!!!
