About Me

Bioarchaeologist from Michigan, USA. Previously studied and lived in Bolivia, Romania, Singapore, Kazakhstan, and most recently Kyrgyzstan. Lover of all things travel, obscure music, great food, and meeting fellow travelers!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I find couchsurfers to be some of the most interesting travelers, with so many stories and experiences to share that I love to hear as a host/on hangouts.

Interests

History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Obscure Destinations, Ossuaries/Charnel Houses/Cemeteries, Learning Languages, Eating, Travel, Cooking, Local Music, Photography, Hiking/Trekking, Adventure Tourism, Soviet-era Art and Architecture

Music, Movies, and Books

Favorite bands: mewithoutYou, La Dispute, Florence + The Machine, Of Monsters and Men, Sigrid, Aurora, Daughter, LIGHTS, Tom Walker, Lorde, Christine and the Queens, Bastille, Wardruna

Books: I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction, though I tend to read more of the latter these days since truth is always stranger than fiction. I'm always interested in non-fiction on North Korea, travel writing, and Silk Road history.

Movies/TV Shows: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Fringe, Departures, Sense8, Dicte, Rita, Game of Thrones, RPDR, Queer Eye, Vikings, Pose, Dark

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Took a 7 month RTW trip/study abroad from Prague to Tokyo in 2014. I spent the summer excavating a medieval Transylvanian cemetery in Romania and a semester at NTU in Singapore, visiting 15 additional countries along the way.

Excavating a medieval Silk Road city on the Uzbekistan/Tajikistan border.

Spending two years living in Central Asia and studying local languages.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always open to sharing knowledge about my fields of study (anthropology, archaeology, history) and travel experiences. Always interested in language exchange (I took a lot of language courses in uni).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Language exchange, travel stories, I'm a pretty good cook, random facts about whatever topic we’re discussing haha
