ABOUT ME
After a couple seasons of simple country living I'm back in the center of Fort Collins, doing some honest labor with my hands, tending to the garden, biking to potlucks, reading in cafes. I've got midwestern blood but have been in the mountain west about 7 years and I've found this a fine fort to hunker down in, as a base for community involvement and broader exploration. I've worked a lot of jobs and seen a lot of places and faces.
PHILOSOPHY
For most of my life I've felt a strong rebellion against the culture I was raised in: consumer culture, religion, people passively stuck in their relationships, houses, and jobs. I used to just philosophize in isolation but now I've connected to ways to actually work on alternatives.
I'm involved with various leftist/anarchist organizations: Food Not Bombs (reclaim food and serve it), Unchained Books (send books to prisoners), Fort Collins Free School Network (skillshares), Democratic Socialists of America (partner with unions and generally promote equality education, health care, work), and the Growing Project (install community gardens). I am friendly with occupiers and my roommates do a lot of political activism and ethnic studies events.
I have a regular volunteer shift as a mechanic at the Bike Co-op and as Free Store coordinator/sewing and tool consultant at Hammer Time! Projects. HT! is an important part of my life, where people are lovingly and actively creating the world we want, instead of mourning what's wrong with the bigger picture. I follow news and international issues but since I've found these real, local ways to do good I feel rooted, optimistic, and ready to mobilize.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've always thought it is ludicrous that all travelers are expected to pay at least 50-100 dollars per night just to have some boring room to sleep in! We need to do as much as we can to circumvent the system. Between working and volunteering I'm occupied full time so I may not always be very accessible to hang out, but as long as I'm in Fort Collins, I can hook you up with a place to stay, and probably a bike to borrow.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I found a few places in Ecuador and Peru through CS, and met up with some rad CSers in Detroit, Twin Oaks (VA), and NYC, and they were all great experiences. A handful of people have found me in Fort Collins and we're all the better for it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I appeared on a Mexican late night tv show (El Rollo), drunk in a swimming pool, on a floating hot dog otherwise occupied by women in bikinis.
Oh, and I also almost got killed in front of Walmart one time.
