About Me

CURRENT MISSION

See the world, meet the people.

ABOUT ME

I'm an outgoing, friendly PhD student, about to finish my degree. This time next year I should be working in California in research so the next few months will be a whirlwind of visting new places and, most excitingly, meeting new people.

I love international travel, although so far I've been isolated to Europe and North America. I quite often travel to conferences, but always try to grab a few extra days either end to experience a new city.

PHILOSOPHY

Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. — Tao Te Ching)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm interested in hosting when my living situation is a bit more settled, which should happen in the next few months.

For now, I'm spending the summer all over Europe and the USA with only limited leisure time in each city- I'm therefore really excited to meet local people both for the chance to meet them and for the knowledge they can share.

I can't wait to do this same with my home town.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Just the one surf with my girlfriend, had an awesome experience in Berlin with a really great host and am excited for more.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: classic sci fi and horror, cheesier the better
Music: everything good. My tastes are too broad to pick a genre, so I'll go with a short list of the last few things I've seen; Electric Swing Circus; Misfits; Dans Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Mad Dog McRae and Creepshow.
Books: Dystopian fiction always pulls my interest, the best thing in the genre I've read yet is Shades of Gray by Jasper Fforde. Alongside this, classic sci fi, fantasy, crime, alternative history and anything anyone recommends.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Jumped off the Stratosphere in Vegas.
