About Me

I am a career-oriented, responsible working man, and a wandering student of philosophy and life experiences. I enjoy personal challenges, including learning how to respect you, yes *you*, as the human being you most want to be. Some challenges are greater than others. I hope you will forgive my failings, as I will forgive yours, and Couchsurfing can bring us together to learn more.

I am very practical too. When I do start living in a host-friendly environment again (right now I can barely support a cousin or best friend - I live in a tiny place with no couch and that is that), and I receive a message that looks copied and pasted with minimal customization, it's okay. I've been there. Many of my friends have been there. I'm more than happy to help a brutha or sista out :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Historically, it feels like a return to the ancient Greek world of wandering around, bringing gifts, being welcomed into others' homes, and having the journey be the centrepiece of the travel. It is a great way to meet genuinely friendly people, connect with the local community.

When I am able to host, I want to. I want to be able to help people out. And I believe the "sharing economy" is an important thing. I have no couch for you. When I do, I want to make sure it is being used, rather than just keeping me company.

Interests

I am interested in politics, religion, the law, culture, history.

For activities, I'm actually an introvert. I would be happiest listening to live music, walking an art gallery, or going to a dance lesson-->dance social night. A bar or restaurant and just talking is fine, but usually the music or background conversations are bit too loud.

I like going to the mountains and hiking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: blues. Folk / blue grass, jazz, rock and roll, pop. Electronica is good for background ambient music, or for dancing at a club.

Movies: Saving Private Ryan is still probably one of my favourites. I like thoughtful dramas.

Books: I like fiction and non-fiction. Classics and contemporary. Technical and artistic.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Led a mountain climb in Hong Kong with a terrible hang over.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've studied business and law at university, worked and studied on three continents, and I read a lot. We can teach each other anything.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I will usually try to find swing dancing wherever I'm visiting, which means if my host doesn't do dancing, this will be a new, cool experience.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Switzerland, United States
