About Me

CURRENT MISSION

getting confronted with as many different perspectives about life as possible.

ABOUT ME

Im David, 21 years old, student of the liberal arts at the University of Freiburg in south east Germany. Im an outgoing person, uncomplicated to be around and curious about life and the lives of others. This is actually a quite difficult task. Just writing down who I am. wow. I would think Im a humorous person, like to contemplate sometimes, trying to figure out this quirky world. But Im also a lot of things I would rather not be. I think I am yet too conform in many ways, cant get off of my butt sometimes or look at myself in the mirror too often or get distracted by little annoying things instead of enjoying the moment.
I like to talk, discuss and share stories.

PHILOSOPHY

60 percent of the time, it works every time.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have neither couchsurfed nor hosted anyone so far via this platform, but I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the world and exchanging stories, so I know what other people do with their lives.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Im am completely new to this. However, I have inofficially slept on couches before of people I didnt know. The nicest host so far was an old American couple in the midwest who emigrated from Germany when they were both very young. They both had a blast sharing their memories with me about past and contemporary Germany.

Interests

I like keeping a balance. I enjoy being around a lot of people, but I also like being by myself and having a cup of tea. I actually have quite a lot of tea, usually accompanied by reading books or papers. I like being active. I swim, I snowboard, I hike and I climb. Im interested in culture and the arts, attend poetry slams and plays in the theatre every once in a while.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music really depends on the situation Im in. While listening to some confusing Jazz reading Kafka might feel right, scrubbing dishes certainly gets me pumped when I listen to some Boom Boom pop song. This means I like a great variety of music, however I mostly enjoy depressive Indie Bands, such as Beirut, Department of Eagles, Elliot Smith, Bon Iver..
I have this thing with music that Im scared to listen to songs that are connected to important memories of mine, because Im afraid the memory gets watered down the more often I recall it by listening to that song. So I never actually listen to my favorite pieces of music, because Im scared the feelings behind the song get lost. Only sometimes I do.

I like independent movies, I like movies by Quentin Tarantino, just saw Django, was great, disturbing, yes, but great, I like Wes Anderson Movies. Fight Club, Perfect Sense, Night on Earth, Lost in Translation, Donnie Darko, American Beauty.
Recently Ive caught myself a lot watching skateboarding videos on youtube or vimeo. I dont know why its so fascinating to me.
