HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hosting for now..

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Friend of mine has hosted a few international guests. Had good experiences.. He recommended I host.. So I am

My PHilosophy on Couchsurfing:

The way I look at cs is it's an opportunity to find like minded people to host from all over the world, learn about their respective cultures, philosphies, view pionts share a meal, trade stories and have a few laughs and if lucky, have a dance party :) In the process we become friends and one day in return, you can host me when I visit your respective country. Sort of like a foriegn exchange program for adults, for free. And so far I made some cool friends along the way. So if you have the same intentions please read on

PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING A REQUEST

-If you are more than 1 person looking to couch surf my couch. Please make sure the all other surfers have a cs account. It's hard to make me feel comfortable with all of you if I don't know exactly who you are. Does make common sense?

-don't bother asking me a request the day of or few days before you are looking to stay. I'm not a hotel where you can click on the website and a room will be automatically become available. The extreme short notice conveys a lack of respect for me. It tells me you think you are so important to me, that I will stop my whole life to accommodate you, while the fact of the matter is I've never met you. I think it is rather rude. Think about it, how would you feel if a complete stranger called you on phone and asked if they can sleep in your house tonight or tomorrow night? Would you feel comfortable? Most likely that type of person has no consideration, no respect for others or manners. It also translates that the person is irresponsible & extremely immature. Either of which is not a type of character of a person that I wish to host.

-You have to be at least 24 and mature enough to figure out how to get to my place from the airport. It's as simple as googling it. It's not too hard to figure out nor time consuming. Preparation tells me you are a responsible type of person.

Here are guests behaviours that I tend to avoid. For obvious reasons.

1) When a guest arrives & my guest rather get straight online using my WiFi to get on Facebook, skype or to look for a job or accommodation etc rather than get to know me first. Of course you can use my WiFi but I'd rather host someone who is more interested in actual reality than virtual reality, please.

2) Guests using Couchsurfing to save money on a hostel or a hotel and see me as a kind of free hotel is really not going to be cool with me. Of course I agree to host you that's my way of saying I trust you and 'mi casa es su casa' but please treat me and my home as just that - my home with respect. Being invited in to a host's home involves mutual trust. Please respect that and we'll get on just fine.

3) Guests who just want to hang out with friends or family who can't host you so I'm the back-up plan providing one with a place to crash for free while you spend the rest of your time with them. Just remember that's not much fun for me. Again I'm not a hotel. I'd prefer not to have to put myself through any awkwardness.

4) I live in a very nice, high end luxury building and being respectful & pleasant to all my neighbors goes without saying.

If you are nodding your head in agreement with everything I just mentioned, then you have common courtesy, manners and respect for others. And you are a guest I would consider having you in my home. I've met a number of cool people on cs because I'm selective. And made many friends. Maybe we you are the next friend to meet and host. Meanwhile good luck surfing. Remember the same energy and intention you give to others usually you recieve in return. Be safe and hopefully we will meet soon.
