About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I’m not a Lord of the Rings loving Hobbit who is in the All Blacks team, nor will I have flowers in my hair…but I’m really looking forward to exploring and experiencing San Francisco in depth for an inspiring and restful holiday.

ABOUT ME

I am tidy, polite and considerate. I’m quiet by nature - but that’s not the same as being a mute or lacking social skills! Very good listener, solid conversationalist. I must admit Im not the life of the party if I'm at a party though.

Originally I put a lot more about me in here, but Ive spread it out into the other questions below.

If youre interested in hosting me, then I’m happy with somewhere on the floor with a sleeping bag. I’m actually too tall for most couches. In terms of ‘habits’ to be aware of, I:
• may go jogging in the morning
• would make my own breakfast (rolled oats are the breakfast of champions, I say)
• would most likely be out pretty during the day and would come back in the evening to stay or go out again. Apparently it rains a lot in SF? :(
• have my own laptop (and would be grateful for wireless access)
• shower in the evenings

PHILOSOPHY

My passions include politics and thinking and changing the world one step at a time.

My politics would be ‘very liberal’ in the American context but I enjoy considering and discussing all sorts of political ideas, and back home I have friends from across the political spectrum.

I always try to live my values – empathy being one of the most important. I also find simple pleasures in all sorts of things in everyday life – some find it weird but I think its just my inner child.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I assume this question is about what I can give back to you as a host.

I offer thought, conversation, and contemplation.

I’m a great listener, and can easily engage in some really good substantial and intellectual conversation. I enjoy considering ideas, people, and the world.

Too often in our lives, we don’t get the space, time, or opportunity to consider bigger things or about whats happening in the world around us.

I’m really interested in learning more about about what you love about San Francisco, and what you think about what is happening around us. So if youre interested in hosting a great listener who can engage in good conversation and be a useful sounding board, then I hope we can meet sometime.

I would normally eat out when travelling. If you host me then I am quite happy to buy you a meal(within reason) or a hot/cold drink in exchange for a good long chat and some local insights into the day and night life. I always perceive restaurants and bars as places best enjoyed with others – perhaps you can help unlock some with me?

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Ive slept on many couches and floors, but I am completely new to this specific couchsurfing.

Interests

I’m a news and politics junkie.

History, politics, geography, economics, sociology are some of my favourite subjects, but I also have a great interest in science and art.

I like museums, but also sightseeing, and walking in the outdoors.

Music, Movies, and Books

Science fiction (Trekkie!) and festival films.

A fair range in musical tastes (jazz, classical, John Mayer, Metallica, and Black Seeds(a NZ band), etc) but I listen to radio podcasts of news and current affairs mostly.

Non-fiction fan.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Im not sure if you can pick one event to symbolise the peak of one’s life experience. Doesn’t slow and steady win the race?

Teach, Learn, Share
