About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meeting interesting people

ABOUT ME

My name is David. I am living and working in Utrecht at the moment, and hope to let you learn about me in the coming text!

PHILOSOPHY

I try to be a positive person: I for instance very much believe in the goodness of people, I try to say 'yes' to as much plans and activities as I can (which sometimes interferes with my sleep - I am writing this at 1:30 in the morning)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

The intensity of my Couchsurfing activities comes and goes, but I am always interested in hosting people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far I've surfed roughly two weeks, staying at 6 people in total and hosted someone once. I have only had positive experiences and I love the concept of meeting people this way.

Interests

I have a very broad interest: I fill my time with playing chess, cycling, running, boxing, playing piano, futsal, hitch-hiking, urban gardening, reading and learning about the world. I am however interested in almost every new activity, and try to do as many fun things as I can. Chess is one of my biggest passions: having the title of 'Fide Master' I find myself a respectable player, but there is always more to learn and to experience.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am on a quest of reading the classic writers, so far I read and liked amongst others: Herman Hesse, Thomas Mann, Franz Kafka, Murakami, Dostojevski, Tolstoi, Orwell, and there is more to come.

Music: I mostly listen to electronic music (e.g.James Blake, Trentemoller, Âme, Kollektiv Turmstrasse, Nicolas Jaar). Furtermore, I listen to (Dutch) hiphop, Dutch folk music, classical music and a wider range of music that interests me

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was fascinated when upon doing a road trip across the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, we encountered a small oasis near a very small creek. We stopped and got out the car to investigate this oasis, and wondered how the village next to the oasis could live in this area. Then, we met a farmer who showed us everything that grew in the oasis: dates, some kind of nuts, beans, crops for their donkeys, and more. Coming from the touristic Marrakech, we thought this man would be expecting some money in return, but although he could probably use the money, he would not accept it from us. This kind of 'being in touch with nature' and this kind of lack of interest in money is something I am aiming for, and am hoping the same holds for my fellow citizens

Teach, Learn, Share

Teaching: I like to explain things in general, more specifically I can teach you for instance to play chess or piano
Learning: I love learning about the passions of other people. Furthermore, I would like to learn as much skills as I can.
Share: love & happiness
