About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm 26 years old and moved to Colorado last May. I live with my boyfriend, Lucas, and we love exploring and adventures, especially those that include mountain biking. Lucas has a degree in Automotive Technology and will be starting back to school at CSU this year to begin another degree in Mechanical Engineering. I went to school in NE for Geology and now work in Denver with an independent oil and gas company.

I spent a bit of time traveling and living abroad (New Zealand, South America) when I was in college, and I'd like to return the kindness that was shown to me during my travels.

PHILOSOPHY

My personal philosophy is to give. I know that when you set your own priorities aside a bit and agree to give more and want less, things begin to work out. This is overwhelmingly true when traveling, when your experiences often link together to form a chain of seemingly perfect 'coincidences'. Synchronicity??? Anyway, I find it much more challenging to retain that perspective in my everyday life, when I'm home doing the 'real world thing' and not traveling and I think that CS can help.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We learn the most from human interaction, and I'd like to learn as much as I can about the world and other cultures, and CS is a wonderful way to do it.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I joined CS when I lived in New Zealand, and have hosted and surfed in NZ and South America. I've hosted a few people in my place in Lincoln and hope to host many more! All of my CS experiences have been wonderful, and some of my dearest friends have stemmed from CS.

Interests

I'm interested in everything, literally. I love to stay active and spend as much time as I can outside. Camping, wakeboarding, yoga, cycling, kayaking, and horseback riding are a few things I do in my free time and I'm always looking for new adventures! I also love cooking, baking, drinking wine and enjoying good conversation (especially around a fire!).

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: old westerns and documentaries
Books: I read almost entirely non-fiction books...including science, space, nature, geology books, and maps. I should branch out into the fictional world of literature.
Music: I love ALL kinds of music, especially folk, jazz, and indie rock. I love being introduced to new music by people that I meet, it's a great way to remember others.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

-Night diving off the coast of Roatan and seeing the magical bioluminescent critters come to life.

-Watching the sunrise over the ocean from my Kayak in Golden Bay, New Zealand.

-Hitch-hiking across South America for 6 months with my brother.

-Coming up through John Gardner pass and seeing Grey Glacier in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field after the coldest camping night of my life and 100mph gusts. Just thinking about it makes me want to scream with excitement.

Teach, Learn, Share

In today's world of cutting-edge science and technology, 4G, and social networking, it's easy to lose ourselves amidst the digital ease with which we now operate our lives. I study the earth and its processes, from billions of years ago to today, and the rate and scale of how our species has changed the face of the planet absolutely blows my mind. No other creature has EVER had such an impact on our planet and I have to wonder; are we living responsibly? And what IS the most responsible way to exist? This is a question that I am constantly asking myself, and I'm constantly changing my mind about it. During my experiences in education and out-reach concerning global climate change and how it's affecting every living organism on our planet, it's evident that a large number of us don't seem to be informed and/or don't particularly care much about the rammifications of our actions. I look around and see so much black and white...environmentalists and industry...politics and the public...but the most important concept to grasp in this time is that there is no good vs evil. We must all contribute to reach a common goal, and must strive to educate one another to make the most informed decisions and implement change.
That said, the nucleus of my interests are in the study and application of responsible, holistic and simplistic living on a local and global scale. Anything that contributes to the betterment of natural ecosystems and the well-being of all creatures that inhabit our planet is definitely worth learning and teaching in my opinion. I know that Colorado is a great place to be interested in these things, and I'm eager to find organizations to become involved in where I can continue to learn.
