About Me
Hi there!
I’m Daykota. I’m currently traveling the world with my best friend, Andre. We’re both from the U.S.A. I’m 23 years old. I come from a large family and they are my entire world. I was born in California but raised in North Carolina. Later went to trade school in Arizona then moved to California after I graduated. I studied audio engineering and loved every bit of it. I was in symphonic band for 6 years and marching band for 3 so music was always a big part of my life. I attempted to play soccer for a while. Although I’m not that great I still really enjoy playing and watching the sport. I really enjoy filmmaking and acting too. I’ve dabbled in it a bit once I moved to California but since I started traveling haven’t really had the opportunity to. For now I’m focused on seeing the world and people. I’ll deal with a career later lol.
Andre is 22. He was born and raised in California. He grew up playing many sports but continued on to mainly play basketball throughout high school. He was studying to become a firefighter but decided that wasn’t for him. It was his idea to begin traveling the world and now here we are.
Andre and I both really into health and fitness, we love to eat great food, and we adore animals. We decided to move across the world to live and work in Australia for a year. During which we got to travel Southeast Asia for two months. When we finished working in Australia we traveled around South America for 2 and 1/2 months. We then went to New Zealand thinking we would be doing a year work and holiday here too but have decided to cut it short and head home for a while. It’ll be good to be back home, but we’ll be back to traveling very soon!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Music, Movies, and Books
Andre and I both love hip hop, R&B, and pop. But we listen to almost anything. One of our favorite things about traveling though is hearing all the new music we’ve never been exposed to. As I said before I used to play low brass instruments so classical music holds a place in my heart too.
I used to be such an avid reader but it’s kind of fell off over the years. I think it’s because I’m such a believer in tangible art forms. I want to feel the book pages flipping instead of tapping on a screen. And traveling with a book collection would be no fun to lug around. But you take what you can get. I like to read thrillers, sci-fi’s, romance, self help, non-fiction, cook books, basically anything you could think of. Andre isn’t much of a reader sadly.
I love so many movies it’s hard to narrow it down. Watching movies is one of mine and Andre’s favorite hobbies. I adored the Hunger Games trilogy, the Divergent trilogy, and the Maze Runner trilogy. The Last Song is one of those from my youth that always holds a place in my heart. A Star Is Born was absolutely phenomenal. I have a guilty pleasure of watching Burlesque. Andre loves horror and I do not so he watches those on his own lol. We both really love Marvel movies too.
Teach, Learn, Share
I’m not sure how much we can teach. We all know how shitty the American education system is. We can share stories of places we’ve been and share recommendations on what we believe would make a great trip.
I’m dying to improve my Spanish. I have the vocabulary of a two year old toddler. If you’re good at teaching Spanish, please do!
