Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Paying forward the generosity that others have showered upon me.
About ME
Continue to be active as a walker and am very health conscious. Raised 4 children as Mr Mom and value family connections as priority . Have wide ranging interests and take pride in my upbeat disposition and ability to include others with divergent political attitudes as friends. I'm liberal in my social and political opinions and am an optimist. Have been a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church for 40 years.
PHILOSOPHY
My travel philosophy is to experience the life style of others as intimately as possible. The opportunity to see someone in their 'home' setting is the ultimate act of sharing and the one that gives me the greatest pleasure.
Likewise, I frequently share my home with travelers.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted Brazilian, German, Thai and Swedish high school students for a school year. Reared my 4 children with considerable foreign travel, athletics, and music with an emphasis on being citizens of the world.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Began my style of couch surfing in the 1970s by hitch-hiking more than 50,000 miles and often sharing hospitality and lodging with my fellow travelers. Made a practice of taking home travelers before formal couch surfing or internet existed. I"ve hosted 'Servas' travelers and have hosted as many as 5 surfers simultaneously in my home.
Interests
Some sports, knowledgeable re cars, grew up hunting and fishing though not active now, love boats, coral reefs , birds and Latin cultures. Recently kayaked 3 nights in the Everglades with my son. Daily exercise: walker , world travel , almost vegetarian, enjoy cooking, favor international cuisines, experienced back-packer to many wilderness areas.
My second son was gifted to us by a friend in Guatemala when he was 2 weeks old. We maintain contact with his birth mother and siblings and have stayed in their home on several visits to Guatemala.

Music, Movies, and Books
Harold and Maude movie because it transcends age barriers that too often prohibit us from exploring relations with others with a great age disparity. Always enjoy historical fiction ie Michener's Hawai, The Source and more, while musically my tastes are eclectic though I'm still 'trying' on Rap! Recent books include Gary Shteyngart's "Russian Debutante's Handbook' and Junot Diaz 'Wild and Wonderful Life of Oscar Wao'. "Born To Run" Christopher McDougall re Tarahumara Indian ultra marathoners from Mexico's Copper Canyon. "The Emerald Mile" Kevin Fedarko re river boating the Grand Canyon
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sailed from Detroit to the Bahamas with newborn son, (now an active couch surfer) young daughters, wife and in-laws on the family ketch in 1981--approximately 1 year duration. The intimacy of sharing new circumstances and places every day with those you most love was an ineffable experience.
