About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To see with new eyes...
ABOUT ME
I'm a PhD Student at Berkeley studying political science. I spend most of my time nowadays studying but I also trying to get out of my campus "bubble". I'm originally from Raleigh, NC but my family has lived in Austin, TX since 1995 and I've been in college in the northeast for the last four years.
I've been very lucky to have travelled a lot with my family, and I've just now started to travel on my own.
I spend most of my time at school buried in books (I had 900 pages of reading a week last semester!) but I like getting out on the weekends and hanging out with friends. I am not a hard partier or get-really-drunk type, but for me nothing beats spontaneously deciding to go out on the town.
It's hard to know me without knowing that I love politics -- not (I would like to think) in the partisan hack way, but in the learning about and analyzing way. I want to be a professor of political science one day but also stay active, too -- I'll talk about US History, political philosophy, and anything in between all day (if you want, that is...).
PHILOSOPHY
I love learning new things and meeting new people. I never want to stop experiencing new cultures and music and art.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I've hosted many people when I've been in apartments in other cities over summers, but I have roommates now so it's hard, though I'm working on it -- but, I am more than happy to show people around San Francisco!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Last spring I took an amazing road trip all the way from Austin, TX to the coast and LA, up to San Francisco, and across over to Wyoming before coming back down to Texas. I couchsurfed with a friend most of the way, and having met the most awesome and friendly people everywhere it made me fall in love with Couchsurfing! This past summer I hosted a bunch of people in Washington, DC and in New Haven -- it was great to meet so many people from across the country and the world. It's hard to believe that I've been a member for more than a year now!

Music, Movies, and Books
Anything by Albert Camus, and works of philosophy since then. I love modernist literature also. (and, of course, as a holdover from my not-so-distant youth - harry potter...)
My favorite movie is Twelve Angry Men (both for the point and the way it's done), and my musical taste is hard to define -- but recently I've been listening to a lot of indie music my friends have given me.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Standing 20 feet away during Barack Obama's acceptance speech at the DNC in Denver. Magical.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can cook, especially vegetarian food. I know a fair amount about politics, both practically and academically/theoretically -- I've published articles in major political science journals and represented the city of Austin, TX at the Democratic National Convention.
