About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to sate my neverending wanderlust

ABOUT ME

Well, for one thing, I don't really like answering out really open-ended "tell me about yourself" questions because I can never figure out what I want to convey or how much I want to say about myself. Here's a smattering of information...

I'm naturally a pretty quiet person, and from that people seem to infer that I don't like crazy. That isn't true! I relish wacky company and enjoy trying things that others might dismiss as stupid or silly (or at least give them a fair chance before deciding they're impractical).

I spent four years in college studying the arts of How To Think and How To Efficiently Process information. I like making music (especially playing piano), solving puzzles of all sorts, going to cool places, and generally breaking out of the monotony of a routine.

PHILOSOPHY

maximize unique experiences, challenge assumptions, revel in the presence of beauty

I'm still trying to understand what I'm doing here and what I'm aiming for (and maybe I never will), but that's okay. I figure I can't go wrong as long as I strive to better myself and do cool things.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't actively participated yet, but I look forward to soon!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I currently have no experience, as I live in a dormitory, but that should be changing fairly soon (hopefully by fall 2014, when I live in my own place).

Interests

in no particular order, and making no claims about proficiency: playing [piano / saxophone / guitar / board games], skiing, [mountain/ rock] climbing, solving puzzles, staring at maps, folding origami, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't watch many movies, but some that come to mind are: Inception; Fantastic Mr. Fox; The Princess Bride; Cloud Atlas; Sprited Away; etc.

Some of the music I like: Sufjan Stevens; Rachmaninoff; Death Cab for Cutie; Tchaikovsky; Daft Punk; Caravan Palace; Coldplay; etc.

Some books I enjoyed: Gödel, Escher, Bach; American Gods; Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!; Matilda; A Game of Thrones; etc.

Board games: The Settlers of Catan; Power Grid; Ricochet Robots; Ticket to Ride; Dominion; etc.

Video games: Braid; Portal; VVVVVV; Mario Kart; Cave Story; etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

watched the sun burst over a sea of clouds and snow on the top of Kilimanjaro

Teach, Learn, Share

I might be able to teach you something interesting about playing/understanding music, folding paper, doing math, or programming.
