About Me

CURRENT MISSION

explore and protect coral reefs in the Marshall Islands

ABOUT ME

I'm spontaneous, considerate, inquisitive and non-judgemental (except about environmental issues!). I love beauty, clever design, and simplicity (better to be outdoors than muck about doing interior decoration).

PHILOSOPHY

Live fully with future generations in mind, get outside and experience things first hand, "before the mast", try to reduce footprints and expand experiences, try to "do it yourself" as much as possible without fossil fuels.

Interests

I'm an artist, biological illustrator, marine biologist and college instructor, I love any wildlife (birds, wildflowers) and am a 10 year coral atoll chronicler documenting an array of coral diseases in the Marshall Islands. I love to fold dance, backback, SCUBA dive, and read (esp. Bill Bryson, Sam Harris and other atheists, including E.O. Wilson). Favorite movies include LOR, the Motorcycle Diaries, the Diving Bell and the Butterfly (many more) and I like political satire.

Music, Movies, and Books

Folk music of Boliva, Bulgaria, etc. and that of Greg Brown, Kate Wolfe, classical music of Prokovief, Mahler, Brahms, Bach, Rachmaninoff, many others.
Monty Python, 30 Rock, the silly side of comedy. Too many movies to mention...I'm a sucker for most, from sports to romance, drama, political thrillers, you name it. Avatar, there's one.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Northern lights, no forgetting a spectacular display, then there is a visit with a 12 foot beaked whale that liked to swim with people in Majuro lagoon, then that small 15 foot whale shark that swam past, above me, while I was at 60 feet. Bliss, and good pictures too.

Teach, Learn, Share

Learn humility, teach tolerance, share appreciation of the beauty of this threatened world.
