About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Drink coffee and eat cheesecake in every country

ABOUT ME

My wife (Marybeth) and I love to travel, exercise, talk trash and hang with our kids. The kids are now out of the house and we are on our way around the world. Marybeth is a yoga maniac. As an ex-wrestler, I used to be pretty heavy into mma. But now I just do my art and practice yoga. I used to teach Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai and met tons of cool people traveling and training at different gyms, but age and a focus on art has taken me to new places. I now have my own studio and gallery. Check it out if you have a minute. www.deankugler.com

PHILOSOPHY

While I believe in God, I don't subscribe to the religious, institutionalized church approach to Him. As to how other people live their lives...who gives a crap?

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We (the family and I) have been couchsurfing for a few years. We have both hosted and surfed and loved all of it. Not all of the experiences have been perfect. But they have all been interesting.
Also, let me say that if you won't take the time to fill out a profile and get verified, there is a good chance we won't be able to host you. CS is a great, simple and cheap way to get people to open their houses to you for free and I don't think it's too much to ask that surfers make the effort to make hosts feel more comfortable about who they host. PLEASE BE VERIFIED OR IN THE PROCESS BEFORE REQUESTING TO STAY.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We went to Australia a couple of years ago and anyone who has been to Australia knows how hospitable they are. We stayed with people we didn't know and had tons of "bah-b" with people we had just met. It was a wonderful experience. Also, our house has been pretty open to those in need which has given our kids an opportunity to meet lots of interesting people.

Interests

I love hiking, biking, yoga and anything art related. I also love to talk about all types of topics over coffee.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - U2, Mumford and Sons, 80's alternative, etc... Movies - Napoleon Dynamite, Snatch, Made, Other guys, etc... Books - anything I can get my hands on.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Birth of my kids. While it seems cheesy, it was pretty bad-ass.

Teach, Learn, Share

As an artist and carpenter, I have taken my love for things visual and applied them to the building trades. But for all that, I am extremely handy and can probably fix anything in your home or point you in the right direction.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Again, with extensive experience in the design and building trades, I may be able to help with stuff you have going on. I am not usually looking to work while I am away from home, but you better believe I have "used my powers for good" to justify an extra day or two. Ha Ha.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Czech Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Singapore, Slovakia
