About Me

OK, not quite fluent in Spanish.... but enough to get by as I lived in Mexico City for awhile. My husband and I built and ran a Bed & Breakfast for several years on Hwy 43 - "Portal to the Peace" towards the Alaska Hwy. It was fun!

I just built a tiny house so as soon as it's ready, I'll be offering a place to sleep, eat, play with the new hatchling chicks, go for a walk in this one road village by a lake...

I have now stayed a total of 4 weeks with all sorts of awesome hosts on my journeys across Canada.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I was looking for a place to stay in Calgary and that was my first experience. I do travel but being in a moving vehicle is one of the activities I dread most. But discovering couchsurfing has made it much easier, even fun!

Interests

I'm just interested in pretty much everything - I'm obsessed with other hominid species like the Denisovans and Neanderthals, and those little ones they call hobbits, and life 30,000 years ago. I'm fascinated and appalled by religions - because I'm atheistic but grew up on a bible college campus... that's what made me sick - I internalized all the abuse yet have only fond memories. But my meat suit thinks it's still happening. So right now my one interest is doing a program for people with chronic disease and pain. It's emotional and messy and I'm scared to feel and remember everything that's been deeply hidden and very suddenly it's right there and I have to figure out how to deal with it. But wow! Unlearnyourpain.com. Whew! I just shared my truth with you. Didn't mean to.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything by Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Michael Shermer, Brian Greene, Jared Diamond, Lawrence Krauss (yeh... I'm a nerdy atheist) LOVE Jean M Auel's Earth's Children series and anything similar - homo sapiens, Neanderthals (and other hominids) living in the same era, meeting, animals that hadn't gone extinct yet. Like to read about dogs because I tend to treat them like humans and they arent. I want to understand them. Books about animal emotions. I like slow movies like The Straight Story and international like Kitchen Stories - hilarious! Pans Labyrinth, Smoke, The Piano - that one haunts me every time I watch it. I liked the new A Star is Born - I mean, who knew Bradley Cooper could sing!? And Lady Gaga looks identical to one of my niece's whom I've never met because my brother is one of those quiverful, home schooling families, but the girls only need to know how to cook, clean, sew and make babies - he cut us off decades ago because we wear pants and have men's jobs and short hair...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gotten to age 55 with extreme myalgic encephalomyelitis, lupus, Sjogren's, etc. Lived in an ashram, lived in Mexico City, always had my own business - B&B, pottery, massage therapy, taught yoga, taught piano. Now I'm kind of a bum. But after 50, that's acceptable (because it's too hot to do anything else when you're a mid fifties female 😒)That's the one amazing thing - I made it to 55! Ok, and I wrote and published a couple of books about having chronic fatigue syndrome.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I would like to be able to cook for you, make sure you're comfortable, have a good, comfortable sleep in my tiny house on the lake, use my kayak or cross country skis depending on the season, have weird, funny, fascinating conversations - the things we can learn from one another is limitless!
