I'm a perpetual student, although I just finished my latest degree. I study music, but am interested in anything and everything if given the right context. My dream is traveling the globe sharing the emotional experience of live opera to the next generation. I'm from a small town and have never lived any truly metropolitan areas, but I've been all over the East coast and parts of Europe.

I grew up on a dairy farm in an Amish/Mennonite community in rural PA. I fell in love with singing and followed that dream to Mansfield University of Pennsylvania and became a certified Music Educator. I love kids of all ages and for a long time I thought that I would be an elementary music teacher. I still may go down this road, as I have a teaching license for PA. However, singing opera is addictive and I want to see if I can do it while I'm young enough to go for it. That took me to Binghamton for another degree, as well as working for the local opera company. Now I'm out in the world, working online, seeing shows, and auditioning!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Most recently, I want to spend the summer of 2019 road tripping in my hatchback! I am covered (quite literally) in the sleeping/food areas, but I'd like to use couchsurfing to find some off the beaten path places to park overnight, and also some plumbing access would be appreciated.

In general, I've been lots of places and have never failed to think that people are amazing. I enjoy traveling and don't have people to bring with me for every event, so making new friends is a high priority. Plus most of those new friends become lasting friends, which is even more magical.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music- Anything under the sun, as long as it doesn't sound like the performers are harming their voices. I listen to rock, but anything too metal makes my own voice feel damage. Specifically: Musicals (Hamilton is the current obsession here),

Movies- Anything done well. Disney has a special place in my heart, but my Hulu and Netflix watched lists are highly varied.

Books- Fantasy reigns supreme here. Forever waiting for the third installation of the Kingkiller Chronicles. I can recite swaths of Harry Potter. Currently listening to Wicked as a I drive.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I secretly carried my best friend's engagement ring from Pittsburgh, PA to Riga, Latvia so that her boyfriend could propose and there would be somebody there to take pictures.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm always looking for people to practice my languages with (German, French, Spanish, ASL in various levels of competency). I'm a certified music teacher so I know lots of different instruments there, and would love to learn more. Anybody who know good places to rollerblade and hike, hit me up!
