About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Finish my PhD in Applied Theatre and keep a balance with academics by being a clown doctor

ABOUT ME

I love learning from others and meeting others. I like getting out in nature and when I'm in more of a city I love cultural events/ exhibitions/ workshops, etc. I have a website I'm starting to build (not much there yet) about some of the theatre and community work I've done at www.d-create.me

PHILOSOPHY

“To be a citizen does not mean merely to live in society, but to transform it. If I transform the clay into a statue, I become a sculptor; if I transform the stones into a house, I become an architect; if I transform our society into something better for us all, I become a citizen." Augusto Boal

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have surfed couches, I have given advice to travellers and a place to stay for the night :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I used to have a joint profile and am now setting up an independent one for my new set of adventures (to check out more references see my join account with Jess from our Europe trip at http://www.couchsurfing.org/people/deanna_and_jess/?utm_campaign=message&utm_medium=email&utm_source=cs ). I have had some of my most special times couchsurfing! Long and winding conversations deep into the night, being taken "skipping", going on road trips and finding 5cm deep hot springs and all jumping in, I even ended up living with a house I couchsurfed with and they became some of the most important people in my life!

Interests

I enjoy bushwalking, playing games (board games or drama games), dancing like no one's watching, making up lyrics when I don't know the words to a song, talking about life the universe and everything, finding new ways to live sustainably, trying to make the world a better place.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: The Castle (Australian), O Palhaço (Brazilian)
Books: Johanathan Norell and Mr Strange.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I feel so privileged! I have stood at the bottom of the gushing waters of Iguazu in Argentina, I have walked on a glacier in Iceland, I have gone to sleep under the stars in the Sahara desert of Morrocco,
And less about travel...I have gotten to go into prisons and run drama games with grown men, I have created street theatre with homeless young people in the city centre, I have helped enable young people with disabilities to be stars in a show they helped to create! So many amazing things!

Teach, Learn, Share

I have run loads of workshops on theatre, creative movement , laughter yoga, clowning, social change, organisational planning, (but usually the stuff I run is for 5+ people).

What I Can Share with Hosts

Drama games, community development knowledge, creative cooking where I use whatever is going bad/ in the house to create something that is hopefully enjoyable.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, China, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Portugal, South Korea, Spain, Turkey, United Arab Emirates

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, Brazil, United Kingdom
