About Me

Hey, guys!

I'm a Brazilian girl currently working as an au pair in Belgium. I'm 21 and I have visited 6 countries so far: England, Mexico, Canada, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. My first trip abroad was 5 years ago when I was 16. I went to England and spent a month there taking an English course.
I started studying at a university called UERJ, my major was Portuguese and Italian. I also worked as an English teacher at a school called Cultura Inglesa. I quit both to move to Belgium and I don't regret it!
I love learning about different cultures around the world and by doing that I also learn about myself and my own culture.
I love learning new languages as well, so feel free to teach me any new words and expressions you may find interesting.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have some friends who were au pairs in Europe and I heard great stories from them regarding couchsurfing. I believe it is the best way to make new friends and get to know the culture for real. I don't want just to visit a place - I want to live it, and what better than locals to help me with that? Besides, I can share a lot about Brazilian culture and - if time allows - even cook some Brazilian dishes.
To sum up, I'm here because I believe that sharing and exchanging is the very best part of being somewhere new -
and you can't do that when you're stuck in a hotel room.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: reggae and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Movies: not a fan of TV. I don't have any favourite movies.
Books: Wuthering Heights is my favourite and I've read it in at least 5 different languages. By the way, if you have a copy in Dutch, let me know! :) I also like
Edgar Allan Poe (especially William Wilson), Jonathan Culler, or anything that makes me question myself, my beliefs, my society, my world.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

As mentioned before, I went to England all by myself when I was only 16. And I didn't even stay in London - I was in a small town called Bury St Edmunds without a smartphone and without a gps, using those paper maps to get around every single day. It was amazing because I could really get to know the local culture and also share a lot about my own culture with my roommates. That's not a big deal when you're European, but I think it is when you have to cross the atlantic like I did. I'm very proud of that and it was a great experience.
