About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I leave Austin, Texas on 28 Dec 2014, and I need to be in Apache Junction, Arizona (near Phoenix) on 16 Jan 2015, which leaves me almost three weeks to do.... something! But I haven't decided what. Maybe the Grand Canyon for a week? Maybe Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point) in Mexico? I would love to find someone who would like to join me in my adventure.

ABOUT ME

I travel around the United States working at Renaissance Festivals. My present circuit takes me to Apache Junction, AZ (east of Phoenix); Fairburn, GA (southwest of Atlanta); Larkspur, CO (between Colorado Springs and Denver); Shakopee, MN (south of Minneapolis); and Plantersville, TX (northwest of Houston).

I'm fairly quiet and reserved, and enjoy socializing in small groups. I do like to go out to goth clubs, but I'm there to dance, and it's not like you can generally be heard over the music anyway!

Mid August-Sept is pretty much the only time I can show folks around the Minneapolis/St Paul area. I'd love to try to practice my Norwegian or German with someone more fluent than myself or my friends.

PHILOSOPHY

I rather like the online quiz thing that pegged me as a hedonistic existentialist. If there is no inherent meaning to life, you might as well enjoy yourself!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

It wasn't CouchSurfing through this site, but...

The first time I went to Arizona, in late December 2004, I had no idea where I was going to stay. An acquaintance suggested I go check out this big block party that he had heard was happening in downtown Tempe. It turned out to be the Fiesta Bowl, with a $20 admission, so I just wandered around the nearby area, and struck up a conversation with a homeless guy, DenNnis, who introduced me to a formerly homeless friend, who offered me a couch at a friends house. Around six in the morning, his friends came home to find a strange girl sleeping on their couch, but when I blearily waved to the back room and said I was their friend's friend, they were totally ok. Then when I actually woke up much later and started cleaning, they decided to keep me :-) I ended up staying at their place for about a month for the next three winters.

Interests

My primary "social" hobby is going out and hitting goth clubs where ever I happen to be. I'm still not particularly social - I go for the music and to dance, and loud dance clubs are not exactly the best places to strike up conversations. But I definitely love to lose myself in the music!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Futurepop, EBM, industrial, goth, or other "dark electronic" music. Also neo-medieval and folk ballads. I've also been known to enjoy bluegrass.

Movies: Sci-fi/fantasy, and costume dramas. My most watched movie of all time is Branaugh's Much Ado About Nothing.

Books: I do not read nearly as much as I used to. I blame computers and the internet. But when I do read, I favor sci-fi and fantasy.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

First thing that comes to mind is my crazy All-American Moment: While kayaking down the Colorado River (with no prior kayaking experience!) on July 4, 2006, during a flat stretch of the river, we saw a bald eagle sitting on a cliff watching the river for fish.

Elsewise, nature is pretty beautiful. There was an exceptionally beautiful canyon in Arizona; occasionally certain trees stick out. Stargazing at Valley View Hot Springs in Colorado. A replica of the Chartres Labyrinth in the desert in Arizona.
