Overview
About Me
Hello! My name is Devon, but I go by Dee. I am deaf and speak ASL. I am very efficient at texting back and forth quickly with hearing people, so there is no need to worry about communication! I work fulltime at a school after I graduated from college in 2012. I also have a second job at Crepe Crazy, a deaf owned restaurant in Austin. Be sure to stop by and enjoy some delicious crepes if you desire!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I love to travel. I've already been hosted a few times, and really enjoyed my experiences with my hosts. So I would not mind to continue doing that in the future. I am also up to meet fellow deaf people or ASL speakers who are traveling through Austin and would like a tour or to try some local food. I am not in an ideal position to offer my place to everyone for the night yet, (unless you have hosted me - then of course I can host you in return for sure), but I can still offer you a few hours of fun!
Interests
Traveling is one of my passions. I also enjoy arts and crafts, outdoors activities, biking, swimming, bowling, beachcombing for shells, photography, reading, watching TV, playing video games, and so on. I'm willing to try anything new!

Music, Movies, and Books
I do not listen to music unless it's mostly beats without any lyrics.
For movies and books, Harry Potter has to be one of my favorites of course. I'll watch or read anything that can hold my attention for more than ten minutes.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I completely uprooted my life in Pennsylvania to move to Texas for a fresh start. Prior to that, I had never been to Texas. I did not even do that much research beforehand; I like to be spontaneous and surprise myself. Basically the first time I touched Texas was to move there right on the spot. The farthest I had ever gone into the South was to Atlanta, GA for a comic convention. I packed everything that could fit into my car and did a week long road trip (with lots of stops for fun). I mention it in this section because people are frequently shocked when they find out I did this on my own, and claim that it is either amazing or brave of me. I usually don't think much of it though - it's just something I had always wanted to do. Also, last summer I traveled through Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala for 1.5 months with my friend on his sidecar motorcycle. It was an EPIC adventure I will never forget - I will be happy to go into details in person if we meet up. :)
Teach, Learn, Share
When I travel - teach me all the economical spots for local attractions, food, activities, events. My interests are quite varied; I'll check out anything and everything. When you travel and meet up with me in Austin - I'll teach you the same. I can also teach you some ASL if you are still learning the language. We can exchange stories, experiences, advice.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can bring some food, or even some alcohol if you wish. I can share my stories, experiences, and some advice. I can share a different perspective on life in general. I can also share my knowledge of ASL if you are learning the language. I can also show off my ability to clean after myself.
