Overview
About Me
Hello, I'm Deeji. Currently a DRR-CCA Specialist for UN and pursuing a master's degree in Social and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines Baguio while single-handedly rearing two toddlers. I used to be a super wild child until motherhood tamed me. :)
I hope to welcome you in our home and I wish to visit yours, too! :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm on Couchsurfing because I'd like to meet new and interesting people, who I hope would eventually become my friends, while traveling to exciting places. My family and I would also like to welcome you into our fun and crazy home! :)
Interests
The geek in me is interested in medieval and colonial history as well as disaster and climate change studies. The athlete in me is interested in trekking, rowing, swimming and surfing - these things I'd like to do again once I shake off the baby weight I gained during pregnancy. The mom in me is interested in babywearing, cloth diapering and DIY children's parties.
I LOVE THE BEACH! I love to maintain my tan. I hope that when my son gets a bit older, we could go to the beach together at least once a month, like I used to when I was still single. :)
I LOVE DANCING! I love dancing to reggae music. There's this weekly thing in Manila called Irie Sunday where reggae bands of different genres congregate and people dance like crazy. I hope that when my son gets a bit older, I could take him to concerts - reggae or not - and dance or mosh together. How cool would that be? :)

Music, Movies, and Books
Reggae makes me happy. Grunge, metal, rapcore, and punk rock keeps me awake. The Beatles keeps me mellow. And pop sticks to my mind like gum.
I'm a big fan of Lino Brocka (a Filipino director who's immensely admired by Quentin Tarantino - you can Google him), Ingmar Bergman and Roman Polanski. Old movies from the 40's to 90's keep me nostalgic and I can watch them all day.
Recent books I've finished were written by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Muriel Barbery, Haruki Murakami and Jonathan Safran Foer. I don't have a favorite author - I think everything I've read so far is pretty good as I try to stay away from bestseller series like Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey - but my favorite book in the world is Unbearable Lightness of Being.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most amazing thing I've done so far is give birth to a smart, beautiful and sweet son. He's a over a year old now and everyday I'm amazed that I was able to bring forth such a wonderful being in the world.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Food. Stories. Laughs. Culture. I'm a clean person so hosts can expect me to clean up after myself. I plan to cook for my hosts and bring some trinkets for them from the exotic tropical island paradise that is the Philippines.
