About Me
Hi! I'm Mindy. I know it says I've been a member since 2009, but I'm actually brand new to Couchsurfing. I love to travel, learn about new cultures, and meet new people!
I have my Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Connecticut and am going back to school this fall to earn my Masters in Elementary Education. I've been working with children for the last few years and can't wait to turn it into a career. One that hopefully allows me to travel!
I wish I could host people, but as a student I don't have enough space of my own. But if you need someone to show you around Hartford, I'm always on board to meet new friends.
I stay positive whenever possible and pretty much bank on the fact that people find my awkward quirkiness endearing.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm here because I love to travel but have limited funds to do it with. Isn't that why we're all here? I'm planning a road trip to New Orleans and need some places to stay along the way, and Couchsurfing seems like a great way to make new friends while doing it.
Interests
I obviously have a strong interest in Education, as I'm going back to school for it. I also love to read (again, obviously, with a degree in English). I love to travel. I've studied abroad in Italy and Ireland, and traveled through France and Israel as well as most of eastern Canada. I'm also an avid knitter (failing Etsy shop and all!), but I swear I'm not as boring as that makes me sound. I'm constantly picking up new interests and learning about new things. I just started working in a Brewery, so we can now add craft beers to the list!

Music, Movies, and Books
I'll listen to some of the pop hits, but my interests tend towards more alternative and indie rock, some blues, some jazz, anything of quality really.
I'm a big movie watcher (they can be as much fun to analyze as books for me), some of my favorites being London Boulevard, In Bruges, Walk on Water, Birdman, New World, so many others that I'm blanking on. We could talk movies for hours.
Books are impossible to pick favorites. Anything by Jeanette Winterson, Ask the Dust by John Fante (such an under appreciated classic!), Lord of the Rings, A Home at the End of the World, and so many more. Dorothy Parker is my spirit animal and Daphne Gottlieb's 15 Ways to Stay Alive is something of a personal mantra.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I climbed to the top of the Masada despite an asthma attack and a fear of falling... But truthfully I like to think that everything I've done is amazing.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'll teach you to knit, if you want. And I'm really great at talking about books and movies. I can also proof a paper for you.... because that's what an English degree is good for.
What I Can Share with Hosts
My sparkling personality? And maybe some beer if you give me a request in advance. And we can discus the intersectional nature of institutionalized race, class, and sexism - but only if you want to.
